Polydisperse hard spheres at a hard wall [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2004
The structural properties of polydisperse hard spheres in the presence of a hard wall are investigated via Monte Carlo simulation and density functional theory (DFT). Attention is focused on the local density distribution ρ(σ,z), measuring the number density of particles of diameter σ at a distance z from the wall.

Effect of CoCrMo Addition on Ti6Al4V/xCoCrMo Biomedical Composites Processed by Powder Metallurgy

open access: yesMetals, 2021
A detailed experimental and numerical investigation was performed on a Ti6Al4V/xCoCrMo biomedical composite for bone implant applications. The aim was to understand the effect generated by the addition of different volume fractions of CoCrMo particles on

Determining Parental Factors for Clinical Trial Attrition in Pediatric Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background/Objectives Despite high enrollment rates on Children's Oncology Group (COG) protocols, attrition after initial consent is challenging, introducing bias and prolonging trial completion. While adult oncology literature has identified predictors of withdrawal, little is known about caregiver decision‐making for child participation in ...

Formation and Properties of Nitrocarburizing S-Phase on AISI 316L Stainless Steel-Based WC Composite Layers by Low-Temperature Plasma Nitriding

open access: yesMetals, 2021
Stainless steel-based WC composite layers fabricated by a laser cladding technique, have strong mechanical strength. However, the wear resistance of WC composite layers is not sufficient for use in severe friction and wear environments, and the corrosion

Comparative Evaluation of Hemodiafiltration, Hemoperfusion, and Standard Hemodialysis on Efficacy, Inflammatory Control, Dialysis Adequacy, and Safety in End‐Stage Renal Disease: A Prospective Observational Study

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Chronic micro‐inflammation in patients with end‐stage renal disease (ESRD) is a significant driver of cardiovascular complications and diminished quality of life. While standard hemodialysis (SHD) effectively manages small‐molecule clearance, its ability to remove medium‐to‐large uremic toxins—the primary catalysts of systemic ...

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

Microstructure, precipitates and hardness of selectively laser melted AlSi10Mg alloy before and after heat treatment

open access: yesMaterials Characterization, 2018
The microstructure and precipitates within selectively laser melted (SLM) AlSi10Mg alloys in the as-built state and after T6 heat treatment were examined and correlated to the hardness evolution.

Modelling stem cell differentiation related processes—A practical overview for biologists

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation is complex and difficult to control experimentally. This review introduces suitable computational modelling approaches that can support stem cell research, from mechanistic ODE and abstract models to multiscale and deep learning methods.

Randomness is hard

open access: yesProceedings. Thirteenth Annual IEEE Conference on Computational Complexity (Formerly: Structure in Complexity Theory Conference) (Cat. No.98CB36247), 2000
Summary: We study the set of incompressible strings for various resource bounded versions of Kolmogorov complexity. The resource bounded versions of Kolmogorov complexity we study are polynomial time CD complexity defined by Sipser, the nondeterministic variant CND due to Buhrman and Fortnow, and the polynomial space bounded Kolmogorov complexity CS ...

Virtual Sensor for On-Line Hardness Assessment in TIG Welding of Inconel 600 Alloy Thin Plates

open access: yesSensors
Maintaining high-quality welded connections is crucial in many industries. One of the challenges is assessing the mechanical properties of a joint during its production phase.
