Survey of Subterranean Termite (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae) Utilization of Temperate Forests

open access: yesSociobiology, 2014
Both native and invasive subterranean termites (Isoptera: Rhinotermitidae), including the Formosan subterranean termite, are well known pests of urban areas, but little is known about their distribution or impact in forest ecosystems of the southeastern ...

Effects of biopesticides extracted with a homemade solvent on stored maize protection

open access: yesAgricultura Tropica et Subtropica, 2023
Synthetic chemicals continue to play an important role in reducing storage losses attributable to insect pest activities. However, the adverse effects associated with some patented chemicals make synthetic pesticides less attractive and have given the ...

Efficiency of Machine Sanding of Wood

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
We hypothesized that the type of wood, in combination with the grit size of sandpapers, would affect sanding efficiency. Fixed factors were used in the experiment (a belt sander with pressure p = 3828 Pa, and a belt speed of vs = 14.5 m/s) as well as ...

Determination of Chemical Composition of Wood Pulp Hydrolyzates by Paper Chromatography [PDF]

open access: yes, 1959
The available literature on paper chromatography was surveyed. Special attention was given to those techniques dealing with the analysis of wood pulp hydrolyzates. Five hardwood pulp hydrolyzates were analyzed by paper chromatographic means. All hardwood

The Formation of Covalent Linkages in Lignocellulosic Biomass via the Oxocarbenium Intermediate

open access: yesChemPhysChem, EarlyView.
Density functional theory models show that the hydrated and acidic hemicellulose matrix in lignocellulosic biomass can generate oxocarbenium ions. These reactive intermediates can participate in the stable formation of glycosidic lignin‐carbohydrate covalent linkages, promoting recalcitrance in plant biomass.
