Simulation of Indexing and Clocking with a New Multidimensional Time Harmonic Balance Approach

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power
Alongside the capability to simulate rotor–stator interactions, a central aspect within the development of frequency-domain methods for turbomachinery flows is the ability of the method to accurately predict rotor–rotor and stator–stator interactions on ...

Study on the stability of analytical periodic solutions of nonlinear gear systems [PDF]

open access: yesMechanical Sciences
The gear system with backlash is a strong nonlinear system. The generalized harmonic balance method is capable of dealing with most strong nonlinear problems.

A note on the method of harmonic balance

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2001
Free oscillation period of the Duffing oscillator with cubic non-linearity was examined. A comparison between the exact period and those obtained by the asymptotic and the harmonic balance methods was done.

Numerical simulation of the non-uniform flow in a full-annulus multi-stage axial compressor with the harmonic balance method

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
To improve the understanding of unsteady flow in modern advanced axial compressor, unsteady simulations on full-annulus multi-stage axial compressor are carried out with the harmonic balance method.

Multitone signal harmonic balance method

open access: yesElectronics Letters, 1999
A novel approach for generating the frequency/time conversion matrices of multitone signals is presented. Conversion matrices are normally used in the harmonic balance method to evaluate currents/voltages of nonlinear devices. The conditioning number of these matrices is a fundamental aspect and the proposed approach always generated matrices with the ...

Numerical Investigation of a Dual‐Mode Shape Memory Alloy Stent Enabling Secondary Expansion via Focused Ultrasound: A Potential Strategy for Correcting In‐Stent Restenosis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a novel noninvasive strategy to treat in‐stent restenosis using focused ultrasound. A shape memory alloy stent initially expands at body temperature. If restenosis occurs, targeted ultrasound heating thermally actuates the stent, enabling a secondary expansion to reopen the blocked vessel, offering a potential alternative to ...

Transfer of Energy and Momentum Between Magnetoactive Surface Microstructure and a Solid Object

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that magnetoactive multilamellar arrays subjected to a rotating magnetic field can function as platforms for controlled transport of physical objects. Through systematic experimental investigation, we elucidate the underlying physical mechanisms determining the upper limit of the achievable transportation speed in such magnetic “conveyor‐

Surface Tension Measurement of Ti‐6Al‐4V by Falling Droplet Method in Oxygen‐Free Atmosphere

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In this article, the temperature‐dependent surface tension of free falling, oscillating Ti‐6Al‐4V droplets is investigated in both argon and monosilane doped, oxygen‐free atmosphere. Droplet temperature and oscillation are captured with one single high‐speed camera, and the surface tension is calculated with Rayleigh's formula.

Calculation of nonlinear vibrations of piecewise-linear systems using the shooting method

open access: yesVietnam Journal of Mechanics, 2012
In this paper, an explicit formulation of the shooting scheme for computation of multiple periodic attractors of a harmonically excited oscillator which is asymmetric with both stiffness and viscous damping piecewise linearities is derived.

Multivariable harmonic balance for central pattern generators [PDF]

open access: yesAutomatica, 2008
The central pattern generator (CPG) is a nonlinear oscillator formed by a group of neurons, providing a fundamental control mechanism underlying rhythmic movements in animal locomotion. We consider a class of CPGs modeled by a set of interconnected identical neurons.
