From Clinic to Computation: Multiscale Bioengineering Strategies for Durable Biological Aortic Valve Replacements

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

Application of harmonic balance method for solving non-linear equations of motion

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
This article presents the advantages and limitations of a harmonic balance method applied for solving non-linear equations of monition. This method provides an opportunity to find stable and unstable periodic solutions, which was demonstrated for a few ...

Halide‐Dependent Photoluminescence and Heavy‐Atom Effects in Low‐Melting Organic–Inorganic Manganese Halides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...

BACH, a Bayesian Optimization Protocol for Accurate Coarse‐Grained Parameterization of Organic Liquids

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a fully automated Bayesian optimization (BO) protocol for the parameterization of nonbonded interactions in coarse‐grain CG force fields (BACH). Using experimental thermophysical data, we apply the protocol to a broad range of liquids, spanning linear, branched, and unsaturated hydrocarbons, esters, triglycerides, and water.

Continuation-Enhanced Harmonic Balance Method for Nonlinear Dynamics in Rotating Machinery

open access: yesShock and Vibration
Nonlinear response conception in rotating machinery, particularly in systems with squeeze film dampers (SFDs), pose significant challenges for established time-domain numerical methods due to bifurcations and critical points along the response ...

Engineering Strategies for Stable and Long‐Life Alkaline Zinc‐Based Flow Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Alkaline zinc‐based flow batteries face persistent challenges from unstable zinc deposition, including dendrite growth, passivation, corrosion, and hydrogen evolution, which severely limit cycling stability. Current research addresses these issues through coordinated electrode structuring, electrolyte regulation, and membrane design to control zinc ...

An efficient steady-state analysis of the eddy current problem using a parallel-in-time algorithm

open access: yes, 2019
This paper introduces a parallel-in-time algorithm for efficient steady-state solution of the eddy current problem. Its main idea is based on the application of the well-known multi-harmonic (or harmonic balance) approach as the coarse solver within the ...

Nanodiamond Quantum Sensors for Probing Free Radical Biology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Free radicals play key roles in cellular signaling and disease but remain difficult to measure in living systems. Nanodiamonds (NDs) with nitrogen‐vacancy (NV) centers enable quantum sensing of local magnetic noise via T₁ relaxometry, providing nondestructive radical detection in living cells.

Periodic Solutions of the Duffing Harmonic Oscillator by He's Energy Balance Method

open access: yesJournal of Applied and Computational Mechanics, 2015
Duffing harmonic oscillator is a common model for nonlinear phenomena in science and engineering. This paper presents He´s Energy Balance Method (EBM) for solving nonlinear differential equations. Two strong nonlinear cases have been studied analytically.
