Almost Periodic Solutions by the Harmonic Balance Method

Acta Mathematicae Applicatae Sinica, English Series, 2022
The so-called harmonic balance method is often used in looking for periodic solutions of ordinary differential equations by trigonometric polynomials. In the paper under review, there is shown that the harmonic balance method can be applied to prove the existence of almost periodic solutions of ordinary differential equations.

Harmonic Balance Method

2021
The harmonic balance method is a version of Galerkin’s weighted residual method. The harmonic balance is to seek an approximate periodic solution of a differential-algebraic equation by a truncated Fourier series. Substituting a guessed periodic solution into the differential equation leads to a residual term.

Convergence improvements of the harmonic balance method

1993 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2002
Harmonic balance based circuit simulators, which allow an efficient evaluation of the steady state solution in the frequency domain, still present convergence failures in nonlinear circuit analysis. Such problems are investigated, giving emphasis both to the numerical aspects and to the theoretical bases of the method.

Continuation method in multitone harmonic balance

2004 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (IEEE Cat. No.04CH37512), 2004
Design of communication circuits often requires computing quasi-periodic steady state response to multiple inputs of different frequencies that may not always be harmonically related. Multitone harmonic balance method can be used to provide an accurate solution if the circuit is mildly nonlinear.

A new development of the harmonic balance method: The hybrid harmonic balance method

Analysis and Applications
The harmonic balance (HB) method is efficient in predicting the limit cycle oscillations for many dynamic systems including very high dimensional systems in fluid dynamics. Recently, some variations and extensions of the HB method have been developed and employed in the computation of large systems.

A generalized harmonic balance method for EMTP initialization

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1995
The harmonic balance method is extended to the steady-state analysis of power system models that include complex nonlinearities and variable topology power electronics equipment as may be user-assembled from basic EMTP-TACS components. In applying the harmonic balance method, these devices are considered as black boxes and isolated from the linear part

Extended harmonic balance method

IEE Proceedings - Circuits, Devices and Systems, 1994
A new approach for frequency domain analysis and periodic steady state analysis of nonlinear circuits is described. Beside the variables generally used in the harmonic balance method (HBM) this method also uses a reduced waveform as a function of time.
