The Method of Harmonic Balance

2011
This method may be used to determine the approximate periodic solutions of nonlinear differential equations. If a periodic solution does exist, it may be sought in the form of a Fourier series, whose coefficients are determined by requiring the series to satisfy the equation of motion.

Harmonic Balance Finite Element Method

2016
The art of HBFEM is to use Computational Electromagnetics (CEMs) with harmonic balance theories, and CEM technologies (with IEEE Standard I597.1 and IEEE Standard 1597.2) to analyze or investigate nonlinear EM field and harmonic problems in electrical and electronic engineering and electrical power systems.

Convergence analysis for the harmonic balance method

Nonlinear Analysis: Theory, Methods & Applications, 1993
The paper deals with the convergence analysis of the harmonic balance method appearing in nonlinear circuit analysis where the circuit splits into linear and nonlinear subcircuits. The linear convolution operator is evaluated in frequency and the nonlinear substitution operator in time.

Harmonic Analysis Method Based on Power Balance

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2013
Nonlinear differential equations are sometimes found by using harmonic balance principle. If it is based on the complex power balance theory, some much more correct and rational results can be obtained. Non-autonomous circuits sometimes include two components, the forced and the self-excited oscillation, they must satisfy respectively the balancing ...

The Compressible Harmonic Balance Method for Turbomachinery

2018 AIAA Aerospace Sciences Meeting, 2018
Recent developments in the Harmonic Balance method for compressible turbomachinery simulations are presented in this paper. The Harmonic Balance method is based on the Fourier series decomposition for the solution variable. By doing this, the transformation from a single transient problem to a small number of coupled steady state snapshots is achieved.

Improved Implementation of the Harmonic Balance Method

48th AIAA/ASME/ASCE/AHS/ASC Structures, Structural Dynamics, and Materials Conference, 2007
Harmonic Balance (HB) methods have been applied to non-linear aeroelastic problems since the 1980s. As the computational power available to researchers has increased, so has the order of calculated HB solutions. However, the computational cost of a HB solution increases with the square of the order. Additionally, the traditional Newton-Raphson, Broyden,

Harmonic Balance Method for Contra-Rotating Propellers

2022
In order to reduce the total time-to-solution, while preserving the required time resolution resulting from the periodicity of the flow in the case of a set of Contra-Rotating Propellers (CRP), it is possible to use the spectral methods. These methods are based on the conversion of the required quantities from the time domain to the frequency domain ...

Multi-probe harmonic balance method to simulate coupled oscillators

2009 3rd International Conference on Signals, Circuits and Systems (SCS), 2009
In this paper the harmonic balance method is considered in conjunction with the probe insertion technique. In general, the nonlinear equations modeling the circuit in the frequency domain are solved with the Newton iterative method. Conventional probe insertion technique has become popular and implemented in commercial analog simulators, since in many ...
