Novel Self-Excited Brush-Less Wound Field Vernier Machine Topology
To realize the brush-less operation for wound field vernier machines (WFVMs), a novel self-excited topology is proposed in this paper which involves a four-pole main armature winding and a two-pole excitation winding connected in series using an ...

Harmonic response of GMR sensor under sinusoidal excitation field
In this work, we report the readout technique of the GMR magnetometer by detecting the odd-harmonic response under an sinusoidal excitation field. The time domain output waveform of the sensor is measured, and an analytical model is used to simulate its behaviour.

Ionospheric electron heating, optical emissions, and striations induced by powerful HF radio waves at high latitudes: Aspect angle dependence [PDF]
In recent years, large electron temperature increases of 300% (3000 K above background) caused by powerful HF-radio wave injection have been observed during nighttime using the EISCAT incoherent scatter radar near Tromsø in northern Norway.

Multi-instrument observations of a large scale pc4 pulsation [PDF]
On 7 November 2005 various ground based and spaced based instruments registered five wave packets with frequencies in the Pc4 range. The most prominent of the five wave packets was observed in ground based magnetometer data spanning almost all ...

Detection of second-order nonlinear optical magnetization by mapping normalized Stokes parameters [PDF]
A measurable magnetic (nonlocal) contribution to the second harmonic generation (SHG) of nonmagnetic materials is an intriguing issue related to chiral materials, such as biomolecules.

Second harmonic generation confocal microscopy of collagen type I from rat tendon cryosections
We performed second harmonic generation (SHG) imaging of collagen in rat-tendon cryosections, using femtosecond laser scanning confocal microscopy, both in backscattering and transmission geometries.

Cluster spacecraft observations of a ULF wave enhanced by Space Plasma Exploration by Active Radar (SPEAR) [PDF]
Space Plasma Exploration by Active Radar (SPEAR) is a high-latitude ionospheric heating facility capable of exciting ULF waves on local magnetic field lines. We examine an interval from 1 February 2006 when SPEAR was transmitting a 1 Hz modulation signal

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Kinematic pile response to vertical P-wave seismic excitation
An analytical solution based on a rod-on-dynamic-Winkler-foundation model is developed for the response of piles in a soil layer subjected to vertical seismic excitation consisting of harmonic compressional waves.
