ESR1 methylation and ESR1 mutations in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and paired plasma‐cfDNA of advanced breast cancer patients: A feasibility proof‐of‐concept study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and plasma cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) were analyzed to detect ESR1 mutations and methylation in patients with advanced breast cancer. CTC‐derived DNA showed higher sensitivity for mutation detection and revealed complementary genetic and epigenetic alterations, highlighting the added value of CTC analysis for understanding ...

Loss of IGF‐1R impairs DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin leading to defective end‐joining

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
IGF‐1R promotes radioresistance by facilitating DNA‐PKcs recruitment to chromatin, enabling non‐homologous end‐joining (NHEJ) repair of double‐strand breaks. Inhibition or loss of IGF‐1R disrupts this recruitment to damage sites, driving compensatory reliance on microhomology‐mediated end‐joining (MMEJ) repair.

Therapeutic Approaches of Viral Gene Silencing by Small Interfering RNA: Strategies to Prevent the Emergence of Antiviral Resistant Escape Mutants

open access: yesPharmaceuticals
RNA interference (RNAi) was originally regarded as a mechanism of eukaryotic post-transcriptional gene regulation mediated by small interfering RNA (siRNA)-induced sequence-specific RNA degradation.

Harmony in the NICU [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood - Fetal and Neonatal Edition, 2002
Neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) are stressful places for both parents of babies and health professionals. Most junior doctors in NICUs are competent and find their neonatal experience enjoyable and beneficial to their career. The name neonatal intensive care unit emphasises that the focus is not only INTENSIVE, in terms of trying to cure the ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Symmetry and symmetry breaking in science and arts

open access: yesProceedings (European Academy of Sciences and Arts), 2022
In this review article, symmetry and symmetry breaking are considered as complementary principles in science and arts. It starts with symmetry and symmetry breaking in early world views of nature and art.

Epigenetic heterogeneity and plasticity in therapy‐induced tumor states through single‐cell multi‐omics

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single‐cell multi‐omics reveals epigenetic heterogeneity across therapy‐adaptive tumor states, including quiescent/dormant, drug‐tolerant persister, and EMT‐like phenotypes. By linking regulatory features with state‐associated biomarkers, these approaches inform biomarker‐guided therapeutic strategies for evolving tumors.
