Harmony Search Algorithm for Solving Sudoku
2007Harmony search (HS) algorithm was applied to solving Sudoku puzzle. The HS is an evolutionary algorithm which mimics musicians' behaviors such as random play, memory-based play, and pitch-adjusted play when they perform improvisation. Sudoku puzzles in this study were formulated as an optimization problem with number-uniqueness penalties.

An improved adaptive binary Harmony Search algorithm
Information Sciences, 2013Harmony Search (HS), inspired by the music improvisation process, is a new meta-heuristic optimization method and has been successfully used to tackle the optimization problems in discrete or continuous space. Although the standard HS algorithm is able to solve binary-coded optimization problems, the pitch adjustment operator of HS is degenerated in ...

Clustering using modified harmony search algorithm
International Journal of Computational Intelligence Studies, 2014Metaheuristic techniques are being successfully used as optimisation methods in various application areas. This paper presents modification in one such metaheuristic called as harmony search HS that is inspired from music improvisation process. The two parameters, harmony memory consideration rate HMCR and pitch adjusting rate PAR, in HS play important

An Adaptive Harmony Search Algorithm with Zipf Distribution
2014Harmony search (HS) can be applied to various optimization problems and easy to implement. In this paper, we try to improve HS by change the reference probability distribution of harmony memory. Zipf distribution is used to balance the intensification and diversification. In addition, we propose the adaptive mechanism to avoid setting the new parameter.

An improved global-best harmony search algorithm
Applied Mathematics and Computation, 2013This paper introduces an improved global-best harmony search (IGHS) algorithm. The proposed modifications effectively combines a novel improvisation scheme with a previously developed mechanism for updating the pitch adjustment rate (PAR) and the distance bandwidth (bw).

Music Composition Using Harmony Search Algorithm
2007Music pieces have been composed using a behavior-inspired evolutionary algorithm, harmony search (HS). The HS algorithm mimics behaviors of music players in an improvisation process, where each player produces a pitch based on one of three operations (random selection, memory consideration, and pitch adjustment) in order to find a better state of ...

Structural Optimization Using Harmony Search Algorithm
2010The paper presents the Structural optimization based on the New Harmony Search (HS) meta-heuristic algorithm. HS was conceptualized using the musical process of searching for a perfect state of harmony. The HS algorithm does not require initial values and uses a random search instead of a gradient search.

Stochastic co-derivative of harmony search algorithm
International Journal of Mathematical Modelling and Numerical Optimisation, 2011A novel stochastic co-derivative was developed based on the density information of multiple vectors in the harmony search (HS) algorithm. While the existing stochastic partial derivative represents the probability with which certain candidate value is selected when searching for a new vector, this co-derivative represents how much one variable in a ...

A Multi-Objective Binary Harmony Search Algorithm
2011Harmony Search (HS) is an emerging meta-heuristic optimization method and has been used to tackle various optimization problems successfully. However, the research of multi-objectives HS just begins and no work on binary multi-objectives HS has been reported.

A New Parallelization Scheme for Harmony Search Algorithm
2015During the last two decades, parallel computing has drawn attention as an alternative to lessen computational burden in the engineering domain. Parallel computing has also been adopted for meta-heuristic optimization algorithms which generally require large number of functional evaluations because of their random nature of search.
