Extrinsic Requirements for Encystation by the Soil Amoeba, Hartmannella rhysodes*

The environmental factors causing encystation in Hartmannella rhysodes, a small soil amoeba, appear to be an elevated osmotic pressure, Ca2+ and Mg2+, aeration and a decrease in carbon sources.
