HARVESTING STRATEGIES IN A FISH STOCK DOMINATED BY LOW-FREQUENCY VARIABILITY: THE NORWEGIAN SPRING-SPAWNING HERRING (CLUPEA HARENGUS)

open access: yes
Heavy positively autocorrelated natural fluctuations in a fisheries stock level are problematic for fisheries management, and collapses in the stock dynamics are difficult to avoid.

Optimal multi-user transmission strategies for Energy Harvesting devices - Strategie ottime di trasmissione multi-utente per dispositivi Energy Harvesting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this thesis a pair of energy harvesting devices (EHDs) is considered, whose state at any given time is determined by the energy level and an importance value, associated to the transmission of a data packet to the receiver at that particular time. For

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Mass spectrometry based identification of AMP‐O‐Tris generated by Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Isolated Thermococcus onnurineus Cas10 generates the noncanonical ATP‐derived product AMP‐O‐Tris while in Tris‐containing buffer as identified via mass spectrometry, revealing relaxed nucleophile selectivity under isolated conditions. These findings suggest that multiprotein Csm complex assembly restricts Cas10 reactivity toward canonical cyclic ...

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

Parallelising Harvesting [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Metadata harvesting has become a common technique to transfer a stream of data from one metadata repository or digital library system to another. As collections of metadata, and their associated digital objects, grow in size, the ingest of these items at the destination archive can take a significant amount of time, depending on the type of indexing or

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.
