Benchmarking Coaxial and Angular Optical Emission Spectroscopy With Recommendations for Reliable Compositional In Situ Monitoring During Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Real‐time insight into local chemistry is critical for reliable part quality in additive manufacturing, especially laser powder bed fusion (PBF‑LB/M), where rapid thermal cycles and localized evaporation can undermine part performance. Optical emission spectroscopy (OES) offers non‑intrusive, in situ plume monitoring, but detection geometry ...

Passive Directional Water Transport on Superhydrophobic Gradient Textures Fabricated by Direct Laser Interference Patterning

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Microstructures fabricated by two‐beam DLIP combining spatial‐period and roughness gradients are fabricated to enhance directional transport of water droplets. The coupled gradients increase transport distance by 160% and strongly suppress motion against the gradient, demonstrating an effective strategy for controlled droplet manipulation.

In Situ X‐Ray Tomography and Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Damage Evolution in C/C‐SiC Composites Fabricated by Liquid Silicon Infiltration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study investigates how the internal structure of fiber‐reinforced ceramic composites affects their resistance to damage. By combining 3D X‐ray imaging with acoustic emission monitoring during mechanical testing, it reveals how silicon distribution influences crack formation.

Disparities in Body Color Adaptability and Ambient Light Color Preference between Wild and Hatchery-Reared Marbled Rockfish (Sebastiscus marmoratus)

open access: yesAnimals
Hatchery rearing significantly influences the phenotypic development of fish, with potential adverse effects for the post-release performance of hatchery-reared individuals in natural environments, especially when targeted for stock enhancement.

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

Stem Cell Differentiation Disperses Transcriptional Clusters via a Conserved Surface‐Condensate Trajectory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Stem cell differentiation follows a conserved surface condensate trajectory: H3K27ac super enhancers nucleate large RNA polymerase II clusters that grow and unfold before transcriptional activity disperses them. This work reveals how biophysical forces at enhancer surfaces dynamically build and dismantle stem cell transcription hubs, reshaping cell ...

3D‐Printed Magnetoelectronics for Interactive Appliances and Self‐Aware 4D‐Printed Mechatronics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
3D‐printed magnetoelectronics integrate high‐performance magnetic field sensing directly into complex structural components. Flexible spring and cross‐shaped sensors exhibit giant magnetoimpedance and 3D Hall sensing for vector field reconstruction. Applications include smart‐home switches, robotic joysticks, volumetric magnetometers, and self‐aware 4D‐
