A cradle aeration system for hatching Artemia
Aquacultural Engineering, 2001Abstract The hatching performance of three types of aeration system was compared. For commercial applications, the cradle aeration system was superior to the single air stone system (90.7 vs 96.5% hatchability). The use of this system resulted in marginal Instar 1 production, lower E-l-arrest, high cyst water hydration activity, minimal nauplii ...

Floating Hatching and Incubation System for Salmon in Rivers
The Progressive Fish-Culturist, 1990Abstract Eyed coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch) eggs were hatched and the resulting alevins reared in incubation trays (cassettes) stacked horizontally in the Kennedy River, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Survival during the embryonic stage (eyed egg to swim-up) was 86.6% in this system.

Digestive system development in post-hatch poultry
World's Poultry Science Journal, 1998The gastrointestinal tract of the newly hatched chick is in a process of development and maturation. In the chicks of domestic fowl and turkeys considerable evidence suggests that, from hatching, the rate of development of the gastrointestinal tract exceeds the rate of body weight gain both physically (relative weight) and morphologically (villus ...

Activation of the serotonergic system in chick spinal cord during hatching
Journal of Experimental Zoology, 1991AbstractThe objectives of the present study were to determine the levels of serotonin (5‐HT), its major catabolic metabolite, 5‐hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5‐HIAA), and norepinephrine (NE) in chick spinal cord before, during, and after hatching and also to determine if changes in the levels of these chemicals are directly related to the hatching behavior.

The Incorporation of Cholesterol into the Nervous System of the Newly Hatched Chick
Acta Physiologica Scandinavica, 1970AbstractThe deposition of cholesterol in the myelin of the central nervous system has been compared with that in the myelin of the peripheral nervous system. C14‐4‐cholesterol was injected into the yolk sacs of newly hatched chicks and whole body autoradiography was performed according to Ullberg (1954, 1958).

Intruder detection systems for water-hatches at reservoir sites
38th Annual 2004 International Carnahan Conference on Security Technology, 2004., 2005Security-hatch covers provide secure access for staff to underground assets that require protection. In the context of the water-industry, these hatches are used as an access point to reservoirs containing freshly treated drinking water. Access to reservoirs is required for valve repair and routine maintenance such as reservoir cleaning.

A control system for a hybrid linear actuator for a flush deck hatch
Proceedings of the 2004 American Control Conference, 2004This work presents the control system design in the development of a hybrid linear actuator for opening the flush deck hatch CV/CVN ship class. We present a simple feedback control system for the hatch opening, which is described by a nonlinear model.

VLS Hatch Actuation System Dynamic Analysis
Annual Reliability and Maintainability Symposium, 1984. Proceedings., 2005Martin Marietta has always considered reliability and maintainability to be important aspects of good integrated system design. The work discussed in this paper was undertaken to provide the magnitude of mechanical loads under which the U.S. Navy Vertical Launching System (VLS) batch controller and actuation systems must function reliably within ...

To evaluate spontaneous embryo hatching in an endometrial epithelial coculture system, and compare it with cases where coculture was performed because of maternal age, previous repeated implantation failures, or both. To clarify in which cases assisted hatching would be appropriate.Individual human embryos were cocultured on an endometrial epithelial ...

Abstract Background Blastocyst hatching is a prerequisite for successful implantation. Knowledge on this phenomenon is scarce in humans and the available information stems from studies on rodents. In hamsters, we earlier showed that embryo-derived cathepsin (Cat) proteases (Cat-L, -B and -P) are involved in blastocyst hatching and it is governed by ...
