The Silence That Could Not Hold: Foreign Policy and the Fall of Keir Starmer
The Political Quarterly, EarlyView.Abstract Keir Starmer's resignation in June 2026 has been narrated almost entirely in domestic terms: the rise of Reform UK, the rout of the May local elections, the winter fuel payment and two‐child benefit cap retreats, the Mandelson appointment. This article argues that such accounts mistake the proximate triggers for the underlying cause.
