Ultrastructure of the haustorium of Trenomyces histophthorus and adjacent host cells

Journal of Invertebrate Pathology, 1982
Abstract The haustorium of Trenomyces histophthorus (Ascomycetes, Laboulbeniales) appears to be enucleate and aseptate; its bulbs, isthmuses, and tubules contain abundant mitochondria and are often vacuolate. Although host cells around some bulbs appear to be unaffected, most host cells in contact with the haustorial tubules are in various stages ...

The Haustorium and the Life Cycles of Parasitic Orobanchaceae

2013
The haustorium is a key organ of all parasitic plants. It penetrates host tissues and serves as the bridge facilitating the withdrawal of part or all of the parasite’s nutritional needs from the conductive systems of host plants. This chapter presents a general description of the haustorium and its functions, and the life cycles of obligate and ...

Polyploidization of endosperm chalazal haustorium of Rhinanthus serotinus (Scrophulariaceae) [PDF]

open access: possibleActa Biologica Cracoviensia Series Botanica, 2005
The paper reports a study of karyological differentiation of the chalazal endosperm haustorium of Rhinanthus serotinus (Schönheit) Oborny. Polyploidization began soon after the formation of the haustorium cell. The fully differentiated chalazal haustorium is a large elongated cell containing two huge nuclei.
