Hawksbill Turtles in Cuba

Science, 1997
In his article “Turtle project can't outrun bureaucracy” (News & Comment, [20 June, p. 1785][1]) Jeffrey Mervis states that Cuba is seeking limited trade of hawksbill sea turtles on the grounds that its population is self-contained. The Cuban proposal at the 10th meeting of CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Flora and ...

Turtle groups or turtle soup: dispersal patterns of hawksbill turtles in the Caribbean

Molecular Ecology, 2009
AbstractDespite intense interest in conservation of marine turtles, spatial ecology during the oceanic juvenile phase remains relatively unknown. Here, we used mixed stock analysis and examination of oceanic drift to elucidate movements of hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) and address management implications within the Caribbean. Among samples

Semen Evaluation of Captive Hawksbill Turtles

Chelonian Conservation and Biology, 2014
Abstract This study presented information about the semen evaluation of captive male hawksbill sea turtles, Eretmochelys imbricata, based on an extended 15-mo study using the electro-ejaculation technique. In particular, we demonstrated that hawksbill sperm, which is underactive just after ejaculation, was activated by the presence of urine.

Lunar phases and hawksbill sea turtle nesting

Journal of Ethology, 2019
The behavior of sea turtle species can be influenced by the lunar cycle, possibly due to moonlight variability. We analyzed the relationship between nesting behavior and moon phase using nesting hawksbill turtle records for beaches in Northeast Brazil for the 2006–2007 to 2015–2016 seasons.

Signals of Vitellogenesis and Estrus in Female Hawksbill Turtles

Zoological Science, 2015
This study reports a viable means of identifying the vitellogenic cycle and limited estrus period in hawksbill turtles for the purposes of developing captive breeding program, based on the combination of blood metabolite parameters (triglyceride, total protein, and calcium levels), feeding status, and ovary condition. Follicle size of two focal captive
