Determination of Hypocentre and Seismic Velocity Structure in Guntur Volcano Using Seismic Data from 2010 to 2014

open access: yesIndonesian Journal on Geoscience, 2019
Guntur Volcano was in a dormant state even though its seismicity had increased on April, 2013 and August, 2013. In this study, determination of hypocentre and seismic velocity structure was conducted using seismic data from 2010 to 2014 as recorded by a ...

Hematopoietic (stem) cells—The elixir of life?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aging of HSCs (hematopoietic stem cells) and the blood system leads to the decline of other organs. Rejuvenating aged HSCs improves the function of the blood system, slowing the aging of the heart, kidney, brain, and liver, and the occurrence of age‐related diseases.

Bayesian Analysis of Hazard Regression Models under Order Restrictions on Covariate Effects and Ageing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We propose Bayesian inference in hazard regression models where the baseline hazard is unknown, covariate effects are possibly age-varying (non-proportional), and there is multiplicative frailty with arbitrary distribution.

From repair costs and casualties to human displacements in the aftermath of an earthquake. The case of buildings with and without pre-existing damage exposed to a Mw 7.1 scenario in the Messina Strait, Italy

open access: yesGeomatics, Natural Hazards & Risk
In seismic risk assessment, expert-elicited collapse factors are used to estimate casualties (injuries and fatalities). However, these approaches often overlook buildings’ pre-existing (pre-earthquake) deterioration.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...
