Layered digraph model for HAZOP analysis of chemical processes

Process Safety Progress, 2008
AbstractProcess modeling has remained challenging in the area of automating hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis of complex chemical processes. Even though signed digraph(SDG) model has been proposed and widely applied in various HAZOP expert systems in the past one decade, the limitations of SDG have not been recognized and discussed in literature.

HAZOP Analysis of Formal Models of Safety-Critical Interactive Systems

2000
We consider methods for analysing interactive systems for operator errors leading to hazards. We model an industrial case study using formal methods and show how a HAZOP-based approach can be used to determine hazardous operator errors. The analysis can be used to motivate and guide redesign of the system to reduce the likelihood of such errors.

An extended HAZOP analysis approach with dynamic fault tree

Journal of Loss Prevention in the Process Industries, 2015
Abstract An extended hazard and operability (HAZOP) analysis approach with dynamic fault tree is proposed to identify potential hazards in chemical plants. First, the conventional HAZOP analysis is used to identify the possible fault causes and consequences of abnormal conditions, which are called deviations.

HAZOP Analysis System Compliant with Equipment Models Based on SDG

2013
It is important to assess the risk in chemical plants. HAZOP is widely used in the risk assessment to identify hazard. An automatic analysis system is developed to perform HAZOP effectively. In this study, semi-automatic analysis system was developed by using the Signed Directed Graph (SDG) as a deviation in the behavior of the propagation of equipment.

A Goal based methodology for HAZOP analysis

2010
This paper presents a goal based methodology for HAZOP studies in which a functional model of the plant is used to assist in a functional decomposition of the plant starting from the purpose of the plant and continuing down to the function of a single node, e.g. a pipe section. This approach leads to nodes with simple functions such as liquid transport,

Analysis of the HAZOP study and comparison with similar safety analysis systems

Gas Separation & Purification, 1989
Abstract The hazard and operability (HAZOP) study is being used increasingly in the chemical and petrochemical industry as a tool for discovering safety problems in existing plants or in plants just designed or under construction. In this paper the procedure of the study is introduced and its relation to the fault-tree analysis and to the failure ...
