SERS‐Based Nano‐ and Microsystems Toward Biomedical Applications

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
This review provides a current overview of nano‐ and microscale SERS‐based devices, encompassing all aspects from material design to practical applications. We highlight controlled SERS‐active architectures, including patterned substrates, nanorods, microspheres, micromotors, and microneedles, as well as combinations of these microfluidic systems.

Scalable Flow Reactors for Stable Biofilm Formation and Continuous Whole‐Cell Catalysis

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Flow‐induced deposition enables the controlled formation of stable and long‐lived E. coli biofilms in modular, scalable microfluidic reactors. Hydrodynamic design principles, mechanistic insight into biofilm architecture and long‐term whole‐cell biocatalysis together establish a versatile platform for continuous microbial processing and the engineering

Post‐Traumatic Growth in the Global South: Possibilities in Relational Ethics from Communities to Classrooms

open access: yesTESOL Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract This article reports on a qualitative study of the way instructors and students understand and respond to traumatizing events in a Sri Lankan university. It shows how the attitudes and practices in the society at large are carried over to classrooms even though local institutions do not have a programmatic trauma‐informed pedagogy.

Media‐Dependent Growth, Stress Responses, and Metal Accumulation Patterns in Azolla imbricata (Roxb.) Nakai Exposed to As, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn: Individual and Combination Effects (Synergistic, Antagonistic, and Additive)

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In this study, we examined metal accumulation and biochemical responses of Azolla imbricata (Roxb.) Nakai exposed to water medium (WM) and nutrient medium (NM) under single and combined (co‐exposure) treatments with five metals (As, Cd, Cu, Pb, and Zn) at 10% environmentally relevant concentrations.

Crossing the Threshold: Students' Experiences of the Transition from Student to Staff Nurse [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Current policy in the health services emphasises nursing students’ fitness to practice at the point of registration. There has also been some suggestion that pre-registration education has not equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills.

Reassessing sixteenth and seventeenth century written accounts of hurricanes in the North Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea

open access: yesWeather, EarlyView.
Abstract While the North Atlantic’s five‐century hurricane history is among the most complete globally, the earliest centuries are poorly documented in the written record. This study reassesses a subset of sixteenth to seventeenth‐century tropical cyclones (TCs) through a systematic review of archival evidence, mainly from Spain’s colonial archive, the

Assessing physiological, behavioral and movement responses to Suprelorin implant delivery methods in free‐ranging eastern grey kangaroos Macropus giganteus

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
Overabundant populations of eastern grey kangaroos Macropus giganteus in peri‐urban areas pose ecological and social challenges. Current management strategies are often hindered by animal welfare and logistical concerns. This study aimed to assess stress responses of kangaroos to two contraceptive delivery methods.
