Mechanistic Insights for Nitromethane Activation into Reactive Nitrogenating Reagents

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 13, Issue 9, Page 2132-2137, May 7, 2021., 2021
Nitromethane activation: DFT calculations show that acid hydrolysis of CH3NO2 is rate‐limited by acid‐catalyzed conversion to CH2=NO2H, followed by protic activation and nucleophilic H2O addition to form NH3OH+. In non‐aqueous solution, acid‐catalyzed H2O‐elimination of CH2=NO2H is followed by electrophilic Tf2O activation, nucleophilic HCOOH addition ...

Coenzyme und ihre Rolle in der Evolution des Lebens

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 133, Issue 12, Page 6308-6337, March 15, 2021., 2021

Coenzymes and Their Role in the Evolution of Life

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 60, Issue 12, Page 6242-6269, March 15, 2021., 2021
Although coenzymes play key roles in biotic metabolism, they have not been in the focus as elements in protometabolism nor has their possible prebiotic generation been discussed in detail. This Review provides a conceptual view of the role of coenzymes with respect to known theories of protometabolism and their incorporation into the RNA world ...

Surface Engineering Strategy Using Urea To Improve the Rate Performance of Na2Ti3O7 in Na‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, Volume 27, Issue 11, Page 3875-3886, February 19, 2021., 2021
A safe, controllable and affordable method using urea at mild temperatures to synthesise a series of sodium titanate samples with different levels of oxygen vacancies is reported. The formation of oxygen vacancies leads to the reduction of Ti4+ to Ti3+ ions in NTO, together with the formation of hydroxyl groups and a secondary phase, Na2Ti6O13.The urea‐

Resonant Dative Bonds

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 52, December 22, 2025.
Dative bonds are an integral, albeit underappreciated, part of the theory of chemical bonds. In their resonant form they can bring a surprising stability to a novel family of rings with multiple hyper/hypo‐valent elements. Abstract The dative bond is an often underappreciated entity in the theory of chemical interactions, despite its explanatory and ...

Urea Complete Conversion to Compound Fertilizer in Industrial‐Scale Tandem Reactors

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 137, Issue 16, April 11, 2025.
An industrial‐grade tandem system was developed to fully convert urea (or urea wastewater) into compound fertilizer while generating H2. In a typical cycle, 200 g of urea was used to produce 232 L of pure H2 and 1580 g of solid compound fertilizer (KH2PO4 and NH4H2PO4) without further separation. The core is to develop an electrocatalyst (S‐NiOOH‐Ni(OH)

Computational Study of the Reactions of CH2 with HCNO and HNCO [PDF]

open access: yes
We present a computational approach for screening reaction mechanisms with machine learning estimates of energy barriers. A comprehensive screening of thousands of reactions identified the CH2 reactions with HCNO and HNCO as possible sources of ...

A call for conceptual clarity: a soft systems view of performance measurement in public service delivery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Performance measurement systems and the publication of performance data are fundamental to the New Public Management, with its emphasis on decentralised service provision through a variety of agencies.

Gas-Grain Modeling of Isocyanic Acid (HNCO), Cyanic Acid (HOCN), Fulminic Acid (HCNO), and Isofulminic Acid (HONC) in Assorted Interstellar Environments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Isocyanic acid (HNCO) is a well-known interstellar molecule. Evidence also exists for the presence of two of its metastable isomers in the interstellar medium: HCNO (fulminic acid) and HOCN (cyanic acid).
