New to town: home range size, habitat selection and behavioral adaptations by urban hares

open access: yesWildlife Biology, EarlyView.
European hares Lepus europaeus have recently been shown to colonize urban areas in different parts of Europe. This appears to be a novel phenomenon, and little is known about the space use and behavioral adaptations of hares living in urban areas. Here, we describe the first findings concerning home range sizes from GPS‐collared hares (n = 3) in Aarhus

Mean difference in altitude estimates between each device and the laser altimeter measurement for the seven flight heights tested during stationary estimates.

open access: yes, 2022
Asterisks represent significant differences from the laser altimeter measurement (α = 0.05). The black horizontal line represents zero, or no difference between the altitude estimate of the device and the measurement from the laser altimeter. As the mean

An evaluation of the accuracy and performance of lightweight GPS collars in a suburban environment. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The recent development of lightweight GPS collars has enabled medium-to-small sized animals to be tracked via GPS telemetry. Evaluation of the performance and accuracy of GPS collars is largely confined to devices designed for large animals for ...

Assessing Repeatable Accuracy Potential of LoRa: A Navigation Approach

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2022
Two main classes of radio navigation systems are satellite and ground-based systems. Examples of such systems are eLoran deployed as a terrestrial system, and BeiDou, Galileo, GPS and Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) deployed as satellite Navigation ...

Spatial Ecology and Habitat Selection by Jaguars and Pumas in a Protected Area in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Understanding animal distribution is crucial for elucidating natural history, population dynamics, and inter‐ and intraspecific interactions. This knowledge informs the planning and evaluation of management and conservation strategies, particularly for sympatric, scarce, and threatened species such as jaguars (Panthera onca) and pumas (Puma ...

The effect of simulated intergroup encounters on movement patterns and home range use in banded mongooses

open access: yesWildlife Biology, Volume 2026, Issue 3, May 2026.
Intergroup conflicts have a wide range of impacts, including affecting movement and ranging patterns. Previous studies found contrasting movement responses to intergroup conflicts, but no explanation for these differences has been suggested. However, these can be broadly grouped into ‘conflict avoidance' responses: avoiding areas close to the fight ...

Short‐term effects of wildlife rehabilitation disappear over time in the wild: A case study on Spanish imperial eagles

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 5, May 2026.
We assessed the effectiveness of Wildlife Recovery Centers by comparing dispersal behavior of rehabilitated and wild Spanish imperial eagles using GPS tracking. Rehabilitated individuals initially moved shorter distances, rested more, and hunted less than wild controls, but these differences declined over time and ultimately disappeared.

Aggregate structures of asymmetric di-alkyl phosphate anions and the role of conformations about the polar region: SANS, cryo-TEM, Raman scattering, 13C NMR, and selective NOE studies

open access: yes, 2023
The aggregate structures of two di-n-alkyl-phosphate anions (di-n-alkyl: n-butyl(n-dodecyl)(BDoP) and n-hexyl(n-dodecyl)(HDoP)) in water were studied by the use of SANS, cryo-TEM, Raman scattering, (13)C NMR, and selective NOE ((1)H{(1)H}) techniques ...

Using GPS-Paradata to Control the Data Collection Process: Review of Existing Methods and Analysis of GPS-Paradata Quality

open access: yesСоциологический журнал, 2022
The use of face-to-face interviews is still a very common data collection method in social sciences. The danger associated with the use of such data collection methods is a reduction in the resulting survey data’s quality due to interviewers ...
