Using Water Energy for Electrical Energy Conservation by Building of Micro hydroelectric Generators on The Water Pipelines That Depend on The Difference in Elevation [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal for Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2011
In this research we study the elevations of cities and the water resources specially at the dams reservoirs and the distance between them(dams & cities), we use the Google Earth program to determine these elevations and calculate the difference ...

Development of 4T1 breast cancer mouse model system for preclinical carbonic anhydrase IX studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) is a well‐recognised therapeutic target and prognostic biomarker in cancer. We developed and characterised a robust murine breast cancer model system that is suitable for CAIX studies in vitro and in vivo—it comprises both CAIX‐positive and CAIX‐negative controls and provides a solid platform for the comprehensive ...

Increase in Non-Contrast Computerized Tomography Scans of the Head Following Popular Media Stories About Head Injury

open access: yesWestern Journal of Emergency Medicine, 2012
Introduction: On March 18, 2009, actress Natasha Richardson died after a head injury. It is possiblethat the rate of patients presenting with mild head injury and receiving computed tomographies (CTs)may have been influenced by the Richardson event.

Knockout of the mitoribosome rescue factors Ict1 or Mtrfr is viable in zebrafish but not mice: compensatory mechanisms underlying each factor's loss

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Mitochondria contain two mitoribosome rescue factors, ICT1 and MTRFR (C12orf65). ICT1 also functions as a mitoribosomal protein in mice and humans, and its loss is lethal. Although Mtrfr knockout mice could not be generated, knockout zebrafish lines for ict1 and mtrfr were established.

A model of macroevolution with a natural system size [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
We describe a simple model of evolution which incorporates the branching and extinction of species lines, and also includes abiotic influences. A first principles approach is taken in which the probability for speciation and extinction are defined purely

An efficient strategy for producing RNA‐free Nucleocapsid protein of SARS‐CoV‐2 for biochemical and structural investigations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cleavable N‐terminal Thioredoxin fusion enabled soluble expression and purification of otherwise insoluble SARS‐CoV‐2 Nucleocapsid (N) protein. A four‐step purification strategy yielded highly homogeneous, RNA‐free N protein. Binding assays showed high RNA affinity (Kd ~ 28 nm). The study will facilitate high‐resolution structural studies of N protein,

How accurate is density functional theory at predicting dipole moments? An assessment using a new database of 200 benchmark values

open access: yes, 2018
Dipole moments are a simple, global measure of the accuracy of the electron density of a polar molecule. Dipole moments also affect the interactions of a molecule with other molecules as well as electric fields.

The Anisotropic Bak-Sneppen model [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
The Bak-Sneppen model is shown to fall into a different universality class with the introduction of a preferred direction, mirroring the situation in spin systems. This is first demonstrated by numerical simulations and subsequently confirmed by analysis

Matrix: a complex amalgam of structures and functions in tumor microenvironment

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The matrix is a dynamic, intricate three‐dimensional mesh of biomolecules with both structural and functional properties. This review deals with the complexity of this ‘molecular amalgam’ in the tumor microenvironment and highlights its importance in the maintenance and evolution of tumors by describing certain matrix biomolecules, such as ...
