Subclinical microcrania, subclinical macrocrarnia, and fifth-month fetal markers (of growth retardation or edema) in schizophrenia: a co-twin control study of discordant monozygotic twins. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Summary: We tested the hypothesis that gestational injuries in some patients with schozophrenia would leave their mark as a subtle reduction in head circumference (subclinical microcrania).

Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Longitudinal analysis of the developing rhesus monkey brain using magnetic resonance imaging: birth to adulthood. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We have longitudinally assessed normative brain growth patterns in naturalistically reared Macaca mulatta monkeys. Postnatal to early adulthood brain development in two cohorts of rhesus monkeys was analyzed using magnetic resonance imaging.

From In‐Silico Optimized Microfabrication to Experimental Validation: Engineering a Tridimensional Epi‐Intraneural Interface

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An epi‐intraneural interface is developed through in silico optimization and a novel tridimensional microfabrication pipeline. The device integrates penetrating and epineural contacts on a flexible substrate. Mechanical, electrochemical, and in vivo testing in rat and pig reveal robust implantation, low‐threshold activation, and site‐dependent ...

Centiles for adult head circumference. [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Disease in Childhood, 1992
Reference range for head circumference on the Tanner charts do not go beyond age 16. In this study the head circumference and heights of 354 adults in two British centres were measured. The centile charts constructed from these measurements show that adult head circumference is related to height.

A Human Neural Tube Model Using 4D Self‐Folding Smart Scaffolds

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) exhibit features comparable to the inner cell mass of the human embryo. iPSCs are applied to a novel self‐folding 4D‐Neural Tube (4D‐NT) structure that mimics the neurulation process. This 4D‐NT model recapitulates early events of human neural development and represents a platform to explore neurodevelopmental ...

Effect of Zinc Supplementation on Growth of Low Birth Weight Infants Aged 1–6 Mo in Ardabil, Iran [PDF]

open access: yes
Objective To assess the effect of zinc supplementation on growth of low birth weight (LBW) infants aged 1–6 mo. Methods LBW infants were enrolled at birth and randomly assigned to receive 5 mg elemental Zn per day (n=45) or placebo (n=45) until 6 mo of ...

Programmable Compliance in Small‐Diameter Vascular Grafts by Design of Melt‐Electrowritten Scaffold Architectures for In Situ Tissue Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Small‐diameter vascular grafts with compliance tunable by design are fabricated via melt electrowriting. By controlling the winding angle of intertwined helical fibers, grafts with compliances matching those of human vessels, from veins to arteries, are realized. This holds the potential of avoiding a compliance mismatch, which has been identified as a
