Headspace Sorptive Extraction (HSSE) in the Headspace Analysis of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants

Journal of High Resolution Chromatography, 2000
A new sampling technique, Headspace Sorptive Extraction (HSSE), is here applied for the first time to the headspace sampling of medicinal and aromatic plants. The analyte partition coefficient between HSSE-PDMS stir bar and sample headspace (K1), the concentration factor (CF), the reproducibility, and the minimum recoverable amount were determined by ...

An analysis of volatiles in the headspace of the faeces of neonates

Journal of Breath Research, 2008
A gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GCMS) analysis of the headspace from the faeces of neonates was undertaken to record the volatiles associated with preterm babies on a neonatal unit. The compounds ethanol, acetone, 2-ethyl-1-hexanol, 3-methylbutanal, hexanal and 2,3-butanedione occurred with the highest frequency.

Headspace analysis of hard cheeses

Journal of Dairy Research, 1979
SummaryA method is described for the chromatographic analysis of the headspace of hard cheese. Among the cheeses examined were 12 commercial cheeses and 12 Cheddars made in the NIRD experimental dairy. The 12 commercial cheeses were Parmesan, Caerphilly, Stilton, Leicester, Double Gloucester, Cheshire, Gouda, Wensleydale and 4 varieties of Cheddar.

An accessory for headspace analysis

Chromatographia, 1970
If a laboratory has to deal regularly with large numbers of samples which have to be analyzed by the headspace method, this task can be taken over by commercial, fully automated instruments (such as the Perkin-Elmer Model F 40). The situation is different if such analyses occur only occasionally.

Headspace analysis of hyacinth flowers

Flavour and Fragrance Journal, 1994
AbstractThe volatiles of white hyacinths were isolated by dynamic headspace trapping. More than 70 constituents could be identified by GC and GC‐MS. The principal constituents were benzyl acetate and (E, E)‐α‐farnesene. Beside these, sensorily important substances like indole, oct‐1‐en‐3‐ol and phenylacetaldehyde were identified.

Continuous chromatomembrane headspace analysis

Journal of Chromatography A, 1996
Abstract A novel version of headspace analysis is substantiated by theory and experiment. The version assumes chromatomembrane extraction of the analyte components into a gas phase. The boundary conditions for the process of chromatomembrane gas extraction are established.

Headspace analysis with cryogenic focusing: A procedure for increasing the sensitivity of automated capillary headspace analysis

Chromatographia, 1986
A convenient procedure has been described for enhancing the sensitivity of equilibrium headspace gas chromatography. The technique involves the cryogenic focusing of headspace vapors at the head of a 0.32 mm fusedsilica capillary column which has been coupled to a packed column injection port.

Headspace Analysis ofCroton lechleriL. Sap

Journal of Essential Oil Research, 1996
ABSTRACT Headspace of Croton lechleri L. (Euphorbiaceae) sap was analyzed by GC/MS to determine the volatile constituents. The major components were: ethyl acetate (39.68%), ethyl propionate (14.03 %), 2-methyl butanol (9.06%), 2-methyl-butyl acetate (6.00%), propyl acetate (5.05%), 3-methyl-butyl acetate (3.47%), eucaliptol (3.02%), 1-butyl acetate (2.

Headspace analysis of solvents in cocaine and heroin samples

Science & Justice, 1997
Solid phase adsorption of headspace vapours was used to trap occluded solvent residues contained in 41 heroin and 54 cocaine samples, seized in Switzerland between 1994 and 1996, onto activated charcoal. The residues were eluted with carbon disulphide and analysed by GC-FID. Identification was confirmed by GC-MS.

Gas chromatographic headspace analysis of sevoflurane in blood

Journal of Chromatography B: Biomedical Sciences and Applications, 1992
We have developed a rapid, simple and precise gas chromatographic headspace analysis for sevoflurane in blood which circumvents problems associated with the high volatility and low blood/gas partition coefficient of this anesthetic drug. Blood standards are easily prepared by volumetric addition of a saturated aqueous solution of sevoflurane. Likewise,
