Does educational level predict hearing aid self-efficacy in experienced older adult hearing aid users from Latin America? Validation process of the Spanish version of the MARS-HA questionnaire.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2019
Hearing aids are the most common rehabilitation strategy for age-related hearing loss. However, 25% to 50% of older adults fitted with hearing aids do not wear them post-fitting. Hearing aid self-efficacy has been suggested as one of the key factors that

Uses and Limitations of Electrophysiology with Hearing Aids

open access: yesSeminars in Hearing, 2013
There is currently a strong interest among both audiologists and hearing researchers to find a physiological measure that can be used as a marker of how amplified sounds are processed by the brain (i.e., hearing aid fitting) or how the brain changes with exposure to amplified sounds (i.e., hearing aid acclimatization).

Retrospective Grid Cells in the Medial Entorhinal Cortex Encode Past Paths During Spatial Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Retrospective grid cells are identified in the medial entorhinal cortex, with spatial firing patterns that become most grid‐like when activity is projected onto recently traversed locations. Their coding loses spatial precision in darkness and is disrupted during assisted movement, indicating that entorhinal representations incorporate recent path ...

A Molecularly Defined Midbrain Circuit Mechanism for Sound‐Driven Defensive Behavior and Anxiety

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram showing the Cbln2+ ICx–dPAG circuit for sound‐driven defensive and anxiety‐like behaviors. ABSTRACT The innate defense behaviors in response to threatening sounds play a fundamental role in survival. However, the neural circuits that detect threat‐relevant auditory cues and transform them into defensive behaviors remain poorly defined.

Galactokinase 1 Positively Regulates Mitochondrial Respiration by Phosphorylating TIMM13 as a Protein Kinase

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
GALK1 acts as a protein kinase beyond the phosphorylation of galactose. GALK1 phosphorylates TIMM13 at Y73 in the cytoplasm. This phosphorylation prevents premature oxidative folding of TIMM13 and ensures its entrance into the intermembrane space of mitochondrion, positively regulating mitochondrial respiration.

Experimental Demonstration of Temporally Aware Fault‐Tolerant Sensor Fusion Using Memristive Associative Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
In dynamic driving scenarios, the proposed approach ensures only temporally aligned sensor inputs to make driving decisions, preventing false activations. By enabling selective hardware‐level learning, it achieves fast, reliable responses under noisy conditions.

Characterizing Biopolymer Electrolytes in Zinc–Air Batteries: Challenges, Best Practices, and a Robust Workflow Guiding Future Research Paths

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based gel polymer electrolytes promise sustainable, mechanically adaptable zinc–air batteries, yet their progress is constrained by inconsistent characterization. This review critically links formulation, structure, interfaces, and cell performance, identifies methodological gaps under alkaline operating conditions, and proposes application ...

Behavioral Coping With Food Price Inflation: Patterns Among U.S. Households

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recent food price inflation has placed substantial pressure on household budgets, food security, and mental well‐being. Using Household Pulse Survey data, we combine k‐modes clustering and Double Machine Learning to identify distinct household coping groups and examine differences in how households respond to rising food prices across groups ...

The Effect of SNAP Purchasing Power on Diet Quality

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits millions of eligible low‐income Americans by increasing access to food, helping to reduce food insecurity. Previous studies have documented that the geographical variation in local food prices leads to significant differences in SNAP's purchasing power.

Consumer Preferences for Craft Beer: The Interplay of Localness and Advertising Language

open access: yesAgribusiness, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores the influence of the language of the label, origin of production, and origin of brewing ingredients on Croatian consumers' preferences and willingness to pay for organic craft beer. Employing an online survey and a choice experiment among 223 Croatian alcohol consumers, we find that while there's a willingness to pay a ...
