The Current State of Mobile Phone Apps for Monitoring Heart Rate, Heart Rate Variability, and Atrial Fibrillation: Narrative Review

open access: yesJMIR mHealth and uHealth, 2019
Background Mobile phone apps capable of monitoring arrhythmias and heart rate (HR) are increasingly used for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of HR and rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation (AF).

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Heart rate variability

open access: yesClinical Cardiology, 1990
AbstractReduced heart rate variability carries an adverse prognosis in patients who have survived an acute myocardial infarction. This article reviews the physiology, technical problems of assessment, and clinical relevance of heart rate variability.

Loss of primary cilia promotes EphA2‐mediated endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in the ovarian tumor microenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of primary cilia in endothelial cells promotes EndMT and vascular abnormalities in the ovarian tumor microenvironment through EphA2 activation. Using human samples, in vitro models, and endothelial‐specific Kif3a‐knockout mice, we show that primary cilia loss drives the acquisition of cancer‐associated fibroblast‐like phenotypes, thereby ...

Fetal heart rate, heart rate variability, and heart rate/movement coupling in the Safe Passage Study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Perinatology, 2019
To determine normative values for heart rate patterns in healthy fetuses. This research is from the Safe Passage Study conducted by the Prenatal Alcohol and SIDS and Stillbirth (PASS) Network. A standardized protocol assessed fetal heart rate (FHR), heart rate variability (HRV), and movement from 1655 fetuses at three-time points during gestation (20-24

Evaluation and modification of tumor cell isolation techniques from malignant effusions for rapid drug sensitivity testing

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Editorial: heart rate [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal Supplements, 2003
In 1997, Levine1 reviewed the theory of the relationship between heart rate and life span. From observations in the animal kingdom, smaller animals have higher heart rates and shorter life spans than do large animals. This is simply explained by a biophysical imperative in which the ratio of heat loss, which is a function of body mass, increases as ...

Heart rate variability and occupational stress—systematic review

open access: yesIndustrial Health, 2018
The aim of this systematic review was to explore studies regarding association between occupational stress and heart rate variability (HRV) during work. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Scopus, Cinahl and PsycINFO for peer-reviewed articles published ...

Association of high‐dose radioactive iodine therapy with PPM1D‐mutated clonal hematopoiesis in older individuals

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In thyroid cancer patients, high‐dose (≥7.4 GBq) radioactive iodine therapy (RAIT) was associated with a higher prevalence of clonal hematopoiesis (variant allele frequency >2%) in individuals aged ≥50 years (OR = 2.44). In silico analyses showed that truncating PPM1D mutations conferred a selective advantage under these conditions.

Maternal, fetal and neonatal heart rate and heart rate variability in Holstein cattle

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2019
: The aim of this study was to describe the normal values for maternal, fetal and neonatal heart rate (HR) and heart rate variability (HRV) indexes in the time domain (standard deviation of beat-to-beat interval - SDNN; root mean square of successive ...
