Mono‐ and Bivalent Poly(iso‐butylene)‐Alanines for Drug‐Delivery of Nimodipine and Triamcinolone Acetonide

open access: yesMacromolecular Rapid Communications, EarlyView.
Mono‐ and bivalent‐, alanine‐modified poly‐iso‐butylenes, folding into beta‐sheets, were prepared by living carbocationic polymerization and subsequent endgroup modification. These PIB‐conjugates are useful as solid polymers for the drug release of triamcinolone and nimodipine. ABSTRACT Poly‐iso‐butylene (PIB) is a well known biocompatible polymer with

Characterization of Enhanced UHMWPE‐Hap Composites Manufactured by Hot Pressing

open access: yesPolymer Composites, EarlyView.
Illustration of the production and examination of prepared composite samples. ABSTRACT In the present study, a hip joint cup/liner material has been developed using ultra high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) matrix material which is reinforced by hydroxyapatite (HAp) particles with the 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 wt.% using mechanical activation followed ...

Engineering stimuli‐responsive shape‐morphing through high‐resolution 4D printing

open access: yesResponsive Materials, EarlyView.
This review summarizes recent progress in high‐resolution 4D printing with smart materials and micro/nanoscale techniques. It covers actuation strategies, key applications, and future challenges for scalable, precise shape‐morphing systems. Abstract 4D printing extends conventional additive manufacturing (AM) by enabling dynamic shape‐morphing ...

Transcatheter vs surgical aortic valve replacement for bicuspid aortic valve disease

open access: yesSurgical Practice, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has emerged as an acceptable and often preferred alternative to surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) for patients with severe aortic stenosis. However, the mid‐ and long‐term efficacy of TAVR in patients with bicuspid aortic valves (BAVs) remains unclear.

Impact of Frailty in Patients With Continuous‐Flow Left Ventricular Assist Device Therapy in End‐Stage Heart Failure: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Frailty significantly impacts clinical outcomes in LVAD recipients. This systematic review and meta‐analysis reveal that frail patients experience higher long‐term mortality but comparable short‐term mortality, hospital stay, and complication rates to non‐frail patients.

Influence of Preoperative Anatomical Characteristics on the Direction of Inflow Cannula in HeartMate 3

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
The IC direction in HM3 was influenced by the mitral valve height from the LV apex, distance between the LV apex and chest wall, and thoracic depth from the LV apex. Moreover, the IC direction in HM3 had little influence on the flow, PAWP and the survival rate of patients.

Management of giant left atrial thrombus late after transcatheter mitral valve-in-ring replacement using a transcatheter aortic valve: a case report

open access: yesBMC Cardiovascular Disorders
Background In symptomatic high-risk patients with severe mitral valve regurgitation (MR), who are not eligible for surgery, Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) or transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR) may be an option, especially when ...

Physiological Control of Realheart Total Artificial Heart

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
This study evaluates the Realheart Total Artificial Heart's preload‐based physiological controller, which dynamically adjusts heart rate and stroke volume to mimic the heart's natural responses during sleep, rest, and exercise using a hybrid mock circulation loop of the cardiovascular system.
