Determination of Ranges of Components of Heat Affected Zone Including Changes of Structure / Określenie Zakresów Składowych Strefy Wpływu Ciepła Uwzględniając Zmiany Struktury

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2015
A simplified analytical method to determine the range of the heat affected zone and its components during welding is presented. Heat affected zone (HAZ) is an area formed during welding in which, as the result of temperature, some structural changes in ...

A Perspective on Powder Metallurgy and Additive Manufacturing of High‐Nitrogen Alloyed Stainless Steels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This perspective article explores an innovative powder metallurgical approach to producing high‐nitrogen steels by utilizing a mixture of stainless steel and Si3N4. This mixture undergoes hot isostatic pressing followed by direct quenching. The article also examines adapting this method to laser powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB/M) to overcome nitrogen ...

High-speed Laser Micromachining with Copper Bromide Laser [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
The application of the copper bromide (CuBr) laser as an attractive tool in the micro-machining of different materials has been demonstrated. High-quality drilling by trepanning and precision cutting was established on several materials with a negligible heat-affected zone (HAZ).

Material Challenges and Alloy Selection for Particle/s‐CO2 Heat Exchangers in Concentrated Solar Power Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Combining supercritical CO2 (s‐CO2) cycles with particle‐based heat transfer media holds great potential in concentrated solar power plants but poses enormous material challenges. The particle/s‐CO2 heat exchanger must withstand extreme conditions, including high temperatures, pressures, CO2 corrosion, and erosion.

Electrochemical and mechanical behaviors of dissimilar friction stir welding between 5086 and 6061 aluminum alloy [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
The electrochemical behavior and mechanical properties of friction stir welded AA5086 and AA6061 Al alloys were investigated. Micro-hardness measurements and tensile tests showed that the heat-affected zone (HAZ) in AA6061 had minimum hardness value (i.e., 88 HV) and served as failure site in the dissimilar weld.

Assessing the Powder Bed Fusion–Laser Beam Potential of Glass‐Forming Alloys Using Single and Multitrack Laser Glazing Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Characterizations of the expanse of processes parameter combinations that can be used to minimize cracking and porosity while optimizing crystallization and hardness are used to assess laser processing of four glass‐forming alloys. The set of viable alloys for laser additive manufacturing is not the same as for suction casting; some alloys are common ...
