The Numerical Simulation and Control of Microstructure in Heat-affected Zone in GMAW

open access: yesModern Applied Science, 2009
Summary: The grain size in heat affected zone (HAZ) of welding piece is an important element for evaluating the welding quality. The Monte Carlo (MC) technique, a stochastic simulation method, could be applied to simulate the microstructure in HAZ. A finite element model (FEM) was employed to simulate the GMAW temperature field and the data of the ...

Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Robust Spot Melting by 3D Spot Arrangements in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work proposes an approach to replace separately melted contours for spot melting in electron beam powder fusion. Adapting the spot arrangements close to the contour combined with stacking yields a comparable surface quality without the inherent challenges of separate contours, as demonstrated, by electron optical images and roughness measurements.

Determination of Ranges of Components of Heat Affected Zone Including Changes of Structure / Określenie Zakresów Składowych Strefy Wpływu Ciepła Uwzględniając Zmiany Struktury

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials, 2015
A simplified analytical method to determine the range of the heat affected zone and its components during welding is presented. Heat affected zone (HAZ) is an area formed during welding in which, as the result of temperature, some structural changes in ...

On the Brittleness of Heat-Affected Zone (Report 8)

open access: yesJOURNAL OF THE JAPAN WELDING SOCIETY, 1956
This experiment was carried out to investigate the influences of pre-stain for the brittle zone of welded part, using both killed and rimmed steel plate. Test plates were pre-strained by tensile plastic deformation ranging from 0 to 10% after full-annealing. Then, single beads were welded.

Weld Heat-Affected Zone Subjected to Multi-Thermal Cycles and Properties of Multi-Quenched Steel Similar to Heat-Affected Zone

open access: yesJournal of the Japan Welding Society, 1965
A atudy is made on structural features and mechanical properties, especially on notch toughness of duplicated weld heat-affected zone and multi-quenched steel similar to refined weld heat-affected zone for Si-Mn and Si-Mn-Cr-V steels by induction heating and tempering in furnace, based on the results of notch toughness surveys of welded joint for ...
