Ceramic matrix composite based on silicon carbide and nanostructured nitrogen-doped carbon for supercapacitor electrodes

open access: yesВесці Нацыянальнай акадэміі навук Беларусі: Серыя фізіка-тэхнічных навук
The results of studies on the production of a porous ceramic-matrix composite material C–N/SiC from silicon carbide and nitrogen-doped nanostructured carbon for subsequent use as supercapacitor electrodes are presented. The material is formed by pressing

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Acoustical modes of arbitrary volumes using NASTRAN transient heat transfer RF9 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
An equivalence between temperature and pressure, heat conduction and stiffness and heat capacity and mass is defined, enabling acoustical modal analysis of arbitrary three dimensional volumes. The transient heat transfer analysis rigid format in NASTRAN,

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Flow boiling in straight heated tubes under microgravity conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Boiling two-phase flow can transfer large heat fluxes with small driving temperature differences, which is of great interest for the design of high-performance thermal management systems applied to space platforms and on-board electronics cooling in ...

Heat and Mass Transfer in Thermal Plasmas [PDF]

open access: yesPure and Applied Chemistry, 1976
Abstract The present status of plasma processes involving heat and mass transfer is surveyed, with particular reference to the processes of vaporization, condensation and chemical reaction. Some of the more important plasma techniques are discussed with emphasis placed on means for maximising the overall thermal efficiency of the mass transfer ...
