Fouling of a double pipe heat exchanger [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Every single heat exchanger in operation in modern industries is exposed to fouling to a greater or lesser extent depending on the surface temperature, surface condition, material of construction, fluid velocity, flow geometry and fluid composition.

Surface heat transfer due to sliding bubble motion

open access: yes, 2009
The presence of a rising bubble in a fluid can greatly enhance heat transfer from adjacent heated surfaces such as in shell and tube heat exchangers and chemical reactors.

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Analysis of heat losses of underground tunnel for engineering utilities with available methods

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2016
Methods for calculation of thermal regime and heat loss parameter for underground tunnel into surrounding sub-soil were developed in first half of XX century, when the study of complex heat-mass exchange processes between underground tunnel, sub-soil and

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Experimental heat/mass transfer studies of turbulent wall-bounded jets associated with mechanicallly ventilated enclosures [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
The development and use of a'n experimental test rig is reported which is capable of modelling two- and three-dimensional wall-bounded air jets. This test rig was primarily produced in order to facilitate the experimental verification of computer ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

IMPROVEMENT OF CALCULATION METHODS OF HEAT INPUT THROUGH TRANSLUCENT STRUCTURES AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THEIR REDUCTION

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2016
The article considers the ways of optimizing the existing calculation procedure for the heat input through infilling the area lights. While maintaining public buildings with large areas of translucent structures during the warm season, it is possible to ...

Uncertainty estimation of the mean specific heat capacity for the major gases contained in biogas

open access: yesResearch in Agricultural Engineering, 2020
The paper is focused on the uncertainty estimation of the mean isobaric and isochoric specific heat capacity calculation. The differences in the data among the individual sources for the technical calculation are presented in the first part of the paper.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.
