Experimental study on the flow and heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids in double-tube heat exchangers based on thermal efficiency assessment

open access: yesEnergy Conversion and Management, 2019
Thermal performance and pressure drop of TiO2-H2O nanofluids in double-tube heat exchangers are investigated. The influence of the thermal fluid (water) volume flow rates (qv = 1–5 L/min), nanoparticle mass frictions (ω = 0.0%, 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5 ...

Dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) regulates trophoblast syncytialization through organelle stress–induced cellular senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The inhibition of mitochondrial dihydroorotate dehydrogenase (DHODH) impairs syncytialization and induces cellular senescence via mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum stress in human trophoblast stem cells, elevating sFlt1/PlGF levels, a hallmark of placental dysfunction in hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

METHOD OF MONITORING CHARGE CONDITION OF HEAT PUMP SYSTEM [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A heat-pump circuit may include an indoor heat exchanger, an outdoor heat exchanger, a compressor adapted to circulate a working fluid between the indoor and outdoor heat exchangers, and an expansion device disposed between the indoor and outdoor heat ...

Experimental and analytical performance investigation of air to air two phase closed thermosyphon based heat exchangers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
In recent years, the use of wickless heat pipes (thermosyphons) in heat exchangers has been on the rise, particularly in gas to gas heat recovery applications due to their reliability and the level of contingency they offer compared to conventional heat ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Impact of the type of heat exchanger on the characteristics of low-temperature thermoacoustic heat engines

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids
Thermoacoustic technologies are considered an effective solution for harnessing low-temperature heat, whether from waste or renewable sources. However, in practice, developing and implementing high-performance thermoacoustic systems is a complex ...

Heat transfer intensification in MEMS two-fluid parallel flow heat exchangers by embedding pin fins in microchannels

open access: yesInternational Journal of Thermofluids, 2021
This work proposes implementation of a passive heat transfer enhancement technique in MEMS two-fluid parallel flow heat exchangers as well as model based investigation of the same; the technique involves embedding square in-line pin-fins in the ...

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Prospects of shallow geothermal systems in HVAC for NZEB

open access: yesEnergy and Built Environment, 2021
Shallow geothermal systems use the thermal inertia of the earth to provide a temperature gradient between the ambient conditions and the underground soil. This thermal inertia can be used by the heat exchangers to provide space heating and cooling during
