Planetary heat flow measurements
Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2005The year 2005 marks the 35th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission, probably the most successful failure in the history of manned spaceflight. Naturally, Apollo 13's scientific payload is far less known than the spectacular accident and subsequent rescue of its crew.

Joule heating in electrokinetic flow
ELECTROPHORESIS, 2007AbstractElectrokinetic flow is an efficient means to manipulate liquids and samples in lab‐on‐a‐chip devices. It has a number of significant advantages over conventional pressure‐driven flow. However, there exists inevitable Joule heating in electrokinetic flow, which is known to cause temperature variations in liquids and draw disturbances to electric,

In Chapter 1, it was indicated that many phenomena of physics and engineering are expressed by partial differential equations PDEs. The PDE is termed a Boundary Value Problem (BVP) if the boundary conditions of the dependent variable u and some of its partial derivatives are often prescribed. However, the PDE is called an Initial Value Problem (IVP) if

We examine the harmonic map heat flow problem for maps between the three-dimensional ball and the two-sphere. We give blow-up results for certain initial data, and establish convergence results for suitable axially symmetric initial data.
