Microwave welding of polymers [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The growing demand for fast, efficient and environmentally friendly polymer joining techniques has intensified research on microwave welding methods. However, there remains a knowledge gap regarding the influence of susceptor composition, welded material

Heat flow calorimeter [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Heat flow calorimeter devices are used to measure heat liberated from or absorbed by an object. This device is capable of measuring the thermal output of sealed nickel-cadmium batteries or cells during charge-discharge cycles.

Moving-edge detection via heat flow analogy

open access: yes, 2011
In this paper, a new and automatic moving-edge detection algorithm is proposed, based on using the heat flow analogy. This algorithm starts with anisotropic heat diffusion in the spatial domain, to remove noise and sharpen region boundaries for the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Heat flow

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1971
In the preceding few years both the number and quality of heat flow measurements have increased dramatically, and, except for the explosion aboard the Apollo 13 spacecraft, we might be able to report the first extraterrestrial heat‐flow measurement [see Langseth et al., 1970].Between 1965 and August 1969, the number of heat flow measurements increased ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Advanced method of global phase shift estimation from two linear carrier interferograms

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2018
Background Phase-shifting interferometry is a kind of important technique used in optical interference metrology. This technique has high precision and good stability, which has been widely used in scientific research and industrial production.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Vertical motion of particles in vibration-induced granular capillarity

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2017
When a narrow tube inserted into a static container filled with particles is subjected to vertical vibration, the particles rise in the tube, much resembling the ascending motion of a liquid column in a capillary tube.
