Ratcheting Heat Flux against a Thermal Bias [PDF]

open access: yesEPL 84 (2008) 40009, 2008
Merely rocking the temperature in one heat bath can direct a steady heat flux from cold to hot against a non-zero thermal bias in stylized nonlinear lattice junctions that are sandwiched between two heat baths. Likewise, for an average zero-temperature difference between the two contacts a net, ratchet-like heat flux emerges.

Inflation driven by causal heat flux [PDF]

open access: yesGen.Rel.Grav. 31 (1999) 815-819, 1997
We find a simple inflationary solution in an inhomogeneous spacetime with heat flux. The heat flux obeys a causal transport equation, and counteracts the inflationary decrease of energy density. At late times, the heat flux tends to zero and the fluid approaches the equation of state $p=-\rho$.

Local rectification of heat flux [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2017
We present a chain-of-atoms model where heat is rectified, with different fluxes from the hot to the cold baths located at the chain boundaries when the temperature bias is reversed. The chain is homogeneous except for boundary effects and a local modification of the interactions at one site, the "impurity".

Modeling of Heat Flux in a Heating Furnace

open access: yesComputation, 2023
Modern heating furnaces use combined modes of heating the charge. At high heating temperatures, more radiation heating is used; at lower temperatures, more convection heating is used. In large heating furnaces, such as pusher furnaces, it is necessary to monitor the heating of the material zonally. Zonal heating allows the appropriate thermal regime to

How large are present-day heat flux variations across the surface of Mars? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
©2016. American Geophysical UnionThe first in situ Martian heat flux measurement to be carried out by the InSight Discovery‐class mission will provide an important baseline to constrain the present‐day heat budget of the planet and, in turn, the ...

Heat flux solarimeter

open access: yesSolar Energy, 2010
Abstract The solarimeter presented in this work is easy to assemble. It is calibrated and its performance is validated by means of Hottel’s method ( Hottel, 1976 ). Finally, the curves obtained with this solarimeter are compared to the ones obtained with a commercial solarimeter. This device is based on the evaluation of the heat flow in a metal rod.

Research On Maximizing Critical And Reducing Initial Heat Flux Densities To Eliminate Any Film Boiling And Minimize Distortion During Quenching [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the paper the results of testing three types of FUCHS oils: Thermisol QH 120, Thermisol QH 10 and Thermisol QB 46 are discussed. The main attention is paid to critical heat flux densities evaluation because they create a basis for optimizing cooling ...

Construction of Machine-Learning Interatomic Potential Under Heat Flux Regularization and Its Application to Power Spectrum Analysis for Silver Chalcogenides [PDF]

open access: yesComput. Phys. Commun., 294, 19258 (2024), 2022
We propose a data-driven approach for constructing machine-learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) trained under a regularization with the aim of avoiding nonphysical heat flux. Specifically, we introduce a regularization term for the heat flux into the cost function of MLIPs to be minimized.

Response of ocean climate to different heat-flux perturbations over the North Atlantic in FAFMIP

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research, 2023
The diversity of surface-flux perturbations, especially for heat-flux perturbations, notably leads to uncertainties surrounding the responses of ocean climate under global warming scenarios projected by climate/Earth system models. However, when imposing
