Drying kinetics and quality aspects during heat pump drying of onion (Allium cepa L.)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Studies, 2012
A prototype heat pump dryer has been developed for drying of fruits and vegetables at low temperature and relative humidity to maintain the quality of dried product. Onions, of Nasik red variety were peeled, trimmed and sliced to 2 mm thickness.

Concept of heat recovery in drying with chemical heat pump

open access: yesProceedings of 21th International Drying Symposium, 2018
Drying is one of the most energy intensive unit operations. It easily accounts for up to 15% of all industrial energy consumption. In the most drying processes heat is required to evaporate moisture which is later removed with a flow of air. The hot, humid air leaving the dryer is often considered as a waste stream, and a large fraction of energy is ...

Transparency phenomena of flat-rice noodles (kuew teow) at drying at soaking variation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper presents a transparency phenomenon that occurred in hot air and heat pump dried flat-rice noodles, which is explained by the higher colour changes, glassy puffing microstructures, and lower fat content in comparison to the freeze dried flat ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Research on Energy-Saving Experimental of Critical Dehumidification of Combined Drying by Dehumidification Wheel and Heat Pump

open access: yesJournal of Food Quality, 2021
In order to further decrease the energy consumption of desiccant wheel dehumidification, the drying medium circulation characteristics of a system combining heat pump drying with desiccant wheel dehumidification were investigated.

Design of a CO2 heat pump drier with dynamic modelling tools [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Drying is an energy and time intensive process which thermal energy demand is mostly provided by fossil resources. Especially in the food processing industry it is important to increase the energy efficiency of drying processes in terms of organic ...

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Case studies of thermally driven heat pump assisted drying [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
In general, most heat losses in industrial dryers arise due to the discharge of humid air. By using heat pump drying (HPD) systems, heat from the exhaust humid air can be recovered, thus improving the energy efficiency substantially.

Cyclic azapeptide CD36 ligand attenuates cardiac injury and reduces long‐chain fatty acid accumulation after myocardial ischemia–reperfusion in mice

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In a murine model of myocardial ischemia and reperfusion (MI/R), the CD36 azapeptide ligand MPE‐298 reduces cardiac injury and transiently lowers left ventricular long‐chain fatty acids (LCFAs) accumulation 3 h after reperfusion, accompanied by a decrease of oxidative stress and inflammation‐associated genes' expression in the heart and adipose tissue.
