Fractal Geometry as an Effective Heat Sink

open access: yesStrojniški vestnik - Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2022
"How long is the coast of Britain?" was the question stated by Mandelbrot. Using smaller and smaller rulers the coast length limits to infinity. If this logic is applied to the fractal heat sink geometry, infinite cooling capacity should be obtained using fractals with mathematically infinite surface area.

A novel copper bead heat sink for computer cooling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The power dissipation of CPU used in desktop computers has been steadily increasing with time. The tendency for a rise in the CPU capacity resulted at present in increasing heat release to 50-100W for desktop PC.

Using of phase change materials to enhance the thermal performance of micro channel heat sink

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2018
In this paper using of the phase change materials (PCMs) in a micro-channel heat sink (MCHS) is numerically investigated. The air is first used in heat sink and then four phase change materials (paraffin wax, n-eicosane, p116 and RT41) have been used as ...

The Effects of Deep Cryogenic Treatment on Heat transfer of Aluminium Heat Sink

open access: yesMedžiagotyra
Thermal management is critical for achieving peak performance and extending the life of electronic equipment. Heat sinks are the most effective thermal control tools. Copper and aluminium are the most used materials for heat sinks.

Effect of Surface Microstructure on the Heat Dissipation Performance of Heat Sinks Used in Electronic Devices

open access: yesMicromachines, 2021
Heat sinks are widely used in electronic devices with high heat flux. The design and build of microstructures on heat sinks has shown effectiveness in improving heat dissipation efficiency. In this paper, four kinds of treatment methods were used to make

Influence of an Electrically Non-Conducting Heat Sink for Power Semiconductors on Radiated Interferences [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Radio Science, 2018
Power semiconductors are used in a growing number of applications. Furthermore, faster switching transients and therefore higher switching frequencies can be realised. This leads to higher radiated interferences at higher frequencies.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

The heat transfer characteristics of liquid cooling heat sink with micro pin fins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This paper numerically and experimentally investigated the liquid cooling efficiency of heat sinks containing micro pin fins. Aluminum prototypes of heat sink with micro pin fin were fabricated to explore the flow and thermal performance.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Parameter study of laminar flow and heat transfer in an interrupted microchannel heat sink with ribs

open access: yes, 2021
The enhanced heat transfer mechanism and parameter optimization of an interrupted microchannel heat sink with rectangular ribs (IMCHS-R) was numerically studied for Reynolds number ranging from 100 to 900, using ANSYS Fluent.
