Critical thickness of an optimum extended surface characterized by uniform heat transfer coefficient [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2015
We consider the heat transfer problem associated with a periodic array of extended surfaces (fins) subjected to convection heat transfer with a uniform heat transfer coefficient. Our analysis differs from the classical approach as (i) we consider two-dimensional heat conduction and (ii) the base of the fin is included in the heat transfer process.

Developed and quasi-developed macro-scale heat transfer in micro- and mini-channels with arrays of offset strip fins subject to a uniform heat flux [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer 236, 126285 (2025)
In the present work, we examine to what degree the heat transfer can be described as developed on a macro-scale level in typical micro- and mini-channels with offset strip fin arrays subject to a uniform heat flux, considering flow entrance and side-wall effects.

An Ontology‐Augmented Digital Twin for Fiber‐Reinforced Polymer Structures at the Example of Wind Turbine Rotor Blades

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A methodology for establishing an ontology‐augmented structural digital twin for fiber‐reinforced polymer structures dedicated to individual lifetime prediction, in this case, a wind turbine rotor blade, is introduced. The methodology resembles the manufacturing as well as the operation of the structure.

Impact of Iron Contamination on Liquid Properties and Microstructural Evolution in AlSi20

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Recycled aluminum is much more energy conservative and sustainable than primary aluminum. However, the iron contamination in secondary aluminum is vastly responsible for the degradation of the material properties. Herein, it is aimed to evaluate the influence of iron contamination in hypereutectic Al–Si alloy through thermodynamic as well as ...

Influence of Cooling Rate on Primary Silicon Size in Hypereutectic Al–Si Alloy Fabricated by Laser Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Al–Si alloys are particularly in demand for automotive and electronic applications, thanks to their excellent wear and thermal properties. Nevertheless, when processed by conventional methods with low cooling rates, the coarse primary Si phases are responsible for increasing brittleness and inducing crack propagation.
