YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Bang-Bang Optimal Control of Large Spin Systems: Enhancement of $^{13}$C-$^{13}$C Singlet-Order at Natural Abundance

open access: yes, 2017
Using a Bang-Bang optimal control (BB) technique, we transfer polarization from abundant high-$\gamma$ nuclei directly to singlet order. This approach is analogous to algorithmic cooling (AC) procedure used in quantum state purification. Specifically, we

Proteasomal degradation of intracellularly expressed Amblyomin‐X limits suicide gene therapy potential in melanoma cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Effects of wall slip and nanoparticles' thermophoresis on the convective heat transfer enhancement of nanofluid in a microchannel

open access: yesJournal of Thermal Science and Technology, 2016
Heat transfer enhancement with nanofluid appears to be an attractive work in recent years. In present work, a numerical formulation based on the Buongiorno model for convective heat transfer using Al2O3-water nanofluid accounted for the effects of ...

On the comparison between compound louvered-vortex generator fins and X-shaped louvered fins [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
A recent evolution in heat exchanger design is the use of compound designs. One of the designs under study is a combination between a louvered fin and vortex generators. Several possible placements of the vortex generators are studied.

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Unsteady heat transfer and direct comparison to steady-state measurements in a rotor-wake experiment [PDF]

open access: yes
Circumferentially local and time-resolved heat transfer measurements were obtained for a circular cylinder in crossflow located downstream of a rotating spoked wheel wake generator in a steady flow tunnel. The unsteady heat transfer effects were obtained

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
