Characterization of the mechanical behaviour of both fusion zone and base metal of electron beam welded TA6V titanium alloy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The fusion zone of an electron beam welded Ti-6Al-4V alloy presents a a' martensitic structure which leads to a change of mechanical properties. Starting from two manufacturing processing routes for the alloy (1) a b processing followed by the weld ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Microstructure and mechanical properties of a novel PM Ti–2Al–1.3V alloy in different heat treatment conditions

open access: yesHeat Treatment and Surface Engineering, 2022
A novel Ti–2Al–1.3V (wt.%) alloy was prepared by thermomechanical consolidation of a composite powder produced by high-energy ball milling of a mixture of TiH2 granules with a low oxygen content (0.1wt.%) and Ti–6Al–4V machining chips with a high oxygen ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Physical metallurgy of modern creep-resistant steel for steam power plants: microstructure and phase transformations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The fact that the microstructure of steel depends on its composition and the heat treatment given to it has been heavily exploited in the design of steel for power plant applications.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Rapid killing of bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.) on surfaces using heat: application to luggage. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
BackgroundThe resistance of bed bugs (Cimex lectularius L.) to chemical insecticides has motivated the development of non-chemical control methods such as heat treatment.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
