TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Effect of Heat Moisture Treatment of Sago Starch on Its Noodle Quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Sago starch has potential as source of flour for noodle. However, noodle made of sago starch has only been limitedly utilized due to the absence of gluten and lack of desired functional properties.

Elimination of cracks in self-assembled photonic band gap crystals

open access: yes, 2003
Thin colloidal crystals (or synthetic opals) composed of Stober silica spheres typically develop cracks when they are utilized to obtain photonic band gap crystals (or inverted opals). We find that by sintering the silica spheres prior to assembly of the

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Isolation of highly heat-resistant Listeria monocytogenes variants by use of a kinetic modeling-based sampling scheme [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Stable high-hydrostatic-pressure (HHP)-resistant Listeria monocytogenes LO28 variants were previously isolated and characterized. These HHP variants were also more resistant to heat.

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.

Diffusion-driven L10 FePt phase formation in Fe/Ag(Au)/Pt and Pt/Ag(Au)/Fe trilayers with inverted layer stacking

open access: yesResults in Surfaces and Interfaces
In this work the diffusion-induced formation of an ordered L10 FePt phase in Fe(15 nm)/Ag(Au)(10 nm)/Pt(15 nm) and Pt(15 nm)/Ag(Au)/Fe(15 nm) trilayers with a Ag(Au) interlayer upon annealing is studied. The films were prepared by magnetron sputtering on
