Heat And Heat-Related Illnesses
AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1981Certain groups of people can be identified as high-risk in relation to these illnesses. Athletes and military personnel who are undergoing rigorous training and conditioning in hot, humid weather are particularly vulnerable. From 1941 to 1944, 125 fatal cases of heat stroke were documented among United States Army recruits in basic training(4).

Summary: The concept of transmission of heat by waves is reviewed and interpreted. We introduce the notion of an effective thermal conductivity, an effective heat capacity, and relaxation functions for heat and energy, along lines used recently to describe the elastic response of viscous liquids.

Emergency Medicine Clinics of North America, 1992
Heat stroke is reviewed in detail. Particular attention is paid to diagnosis and current emergency department treatment, and a brief overview of pathophysiology is included. Early complications, with recommendations for prevention and management, are described. Minor heat related syndromes are also mentioned.

It is hoped that by constant vigilance on the part of all physicians interested in athletic medicine and through the cooperation of the athletic coaches of this country, we can eliminate heat stroke as a cause of death in American football.

ABSTRACTHeat stroke is a life‐threatening condition clinically diagnosed as a severe elevation in body temperature with central nervous system dysfunction that often includes combativeness, delirium, seizures, and coma. Classic heat stroke primarily occurs in immunocompromised individuals during annual heat waves.

Heat exhaustion is part of a spectrum of heat-related illnesses that can affect all individuals, although children, older adults, and those with chronic disease are particularly vulnerable due to their impaired ability to dissipate heat. If left uninterrupted, there can be progression of symptoms to heatstroke, a life-threatening emergency.

Heat Transport without Heating?
2020When the spatial dimensions of metallic heterostructures shrink below the mean free path of its conduction electrons, the transport of electrons and hence the transport of thermal energy by electrons continuously changes from diffusive to ballistic.
