The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Renewable energy sources for gas preheating [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
To ensure proper gas supply parameters, to the polish natural gas distribution network, which includes about 900 pressure reduction stations (PRS), requires high energy consumption for gas heating, that amounts to approx. 700 TJ/year.

Conservatories and domestic heating [PDF]

open access: yes, 1987
Passive solar gains to buildings in North European Climates can be significant and an investigation is made into the effect of orientation upon solar gains based upon known weather data.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

To heat or not to heat: a study of the performances of iron carbide nanoparticles in magnetic heating [PDF]

open access: yesNanoscale, 2019
This study shows why FeC NPs of similar structures and static magnetic properties display radically different heating power (SAR from 0 to 2 kW g−1).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

High-Strength aluminium cast iron is a perspective material for thermal change conditions

open access: yesЛитьë и металлургия, 2002
There are developed the composition and technology of high-strength aluminium cast iron production using cupola heat as an initial cast iron. New cast iron may be used for castings, which are to be of high oxidation, heat and growth resistance.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.
