Heating Furnaces Efficiency Improvement

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2015
AbstractThe technical and economic optimization problem of the heating furnace multi-layer lining, consisting of layers of different thickness and made of materials with different thermal physical and performance properties is considered. The solution and the algorithm to determine the most economically advantageous lining thickness of the furnace is ...

Performance of a transcritical carbon dioxide heat pump for simultaneous refrigeration and water heating : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology at Massey University [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Many industrial processes require both refrigeration to less than 0°C and water heating to greater than 60°C. Traditional independent refrigeration and boiler systems have relatively poor energy efficiency, whilst conventional heat pumps can provide both

Cell surface interactome analysis identifies TSPAN4 as a negative regulator of PD‐L1 in melanoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using cell surface proximity biotinylation, we identified tetraspanin TSPAN4 within the PD‐L1 interactome of melanoma cells. TSPAN4 negatively regulates PD‐L1 expression and lateral mobility by limiting its interaction with CMTM6 and promoting PD‐L1 degradation.

Weatherization: A Step Towards Green Cities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Home heating is a basic necessity that comes at a very high cost, particularly for residents in the city of Buffalo. Weatherization is an efficient and affordable method for reducing energy costs by increasing home energy efficiency.

Effects of the Non-Equipartition of Electrons and Ions in the Outskirts of Relaxed Galaxy Clusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
(abridged) We have studied the effects of electron-ion non-equipartition in the outer regions of relaxed clusters for a wide range of masses in the \LambdaCDM cosmology using one-dimensional hydrodynamic simulations.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Combining antibody conjugates with cytotoxic and immune‐stimulating payloads maximizes anti‐cancer activity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Methods to improve antibody–drug conjugate (ADC) treatment durability in cancer therapy are needed. We utilized ADCs and immune‐stimulating antibody conjugates (ISACs), which are made from two non‐competitive antibodies, to enhance the entry of toxic payloads into cancer cells and deliver immunostimulatory agents into immune cells.

Optimum Size of Nanorods for Heating Application

open access: yes, 2013
Magnetic nanoparticles (MNP's) have become increasingly important in heating applications such as hyperthermia treatment of cancer due to their ability to release heat when a remote external alternating magnetic field is applied.
