Investigation of heave response of the deepwater octagonal FDPSO using various heave plate configurations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Application, 2017
Heave plates can be employed to control undesirable heave motion amplitudes of the deepwater octagonal Floating, Drilling, Production, Storage, and Offloading (FDPSO) platform. Numerical simulations and model tests were applied to analyze and investigate the hydrodynamic response and the feasibility of the heave plate configurations.

Experimental study on heave damping due to the heave plate addition on the SPAR keel

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2021
Abstract Recent years have shown the increasing number of SPAR offshore floating platforms built and delivered worldwide. This eventually is strongly related to the generic potential of such platforms, in term of economy and performance aspects, especially for the operation in deep water.

Experimental Studies of Interaction Forces Affect the Position of Vertical Plates on Oscillating Heave Plates with Cylindrical Bodies in Regular Waves

open access: yesInternational Journal of Renewable Energy Development, 2020
This paper discusses an experimental study of a wave energy converter (WEC) without using reaction from the seabed. The WEC uses buoys and heave plates, which can react to their self-reacting.

Scale Effects in Heave-Plates: Piv Investigation

open access: yesVolume 9: Ocean Renewable Energy, 2020
Abstract Bezunartea et al. Scale Effects on Heave Plates for Semi-Submersible Floating Offshore Wind Turbines: Case Study With a Solid Plain Plate (Journal of Offshore Mechanics and Arctic Engineering, Vol. 11, pp 1–14, 2019) studied scale effects on the hydrodynamics of heave plates by conducting model scale experimental tests.

Wave Induced Effects on the Hydrodynamic Coefficients of an Oscillating Heave Plate in Offshore Wind Turbines

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
The research problem discussed in this paper is of relevance to floating offshore wind turbine design, where heave plates are attached to the columns of a semi-submersible in order to improve vertical plane stability and the power output.

An impedance approach to reduce the contact-instability whilst drilling with active heave compensation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The bit-bounce, or contact-instability, phenomenon which occurs in the drill string suspended from a floating vessel with an active drill string compensator to maintain a steady weight on the drill bit is investigated.

Secondary frost heave in freezing soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
Frost heave describes the phenomenon whereby soil freezing causes upwards surface motion due to the action of capillary suction imbibing water from the unfrozen region below. The expansion of water on freezing is a small part of the overall surface heave

Hydrodynamic Effects of Heave plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
A downsized model of a circular heave plate attached to the bottom of a cylinder is modelled for a variety of oscillatory motions and disc radii, by means of theoretical calculations, Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamcis (SPH) simulations, and physical ...
