Critical scattering in heavy ion reactions

Zeitschrift fr Physik A Hadrons and Nuclei, 1992
Heavy ion reactions at intermediate energies are mostly described by the VUU equations. Using methods of quantum statistics we derive a useful relation between the width of s.p. states and the density — density correlation function. Near the point of instability from this relation there follows the increase of the collision integral and enhanced ...

Elastic and inelastic scattering of heavy ions

Nuclear Physics, 1966
Abstract The elastic and inelastic scattering of heavy ions from nuclei are considered in terms of a generalized optical model. Amplitudes for the single excitation of target or projectile are evaluated in distorted waves approximation, while amplitudes for more complicated excitations, such as double excitation or mutual excitation of both nuclei ...

Deep inelastic scattering of heavy ions

Progress in Particle and Nuclear Physics, 1980
Abstract These lecture notes show how path integral methods can be used in the theory of heavy ion reactions. The effects of internal degrees of freedom on the relative motion are contained in an influence functional which is calculated for several simple models of the internal structure.

Reflection in heavy ion elastic scattering

Nuclear Physics A, 1990
Abstract The reflective model for heavy ion elastic scattering is discussed in its classical, semi-classical and quantum mechanics formulation. The model assumes that the reflection is the dominant scattering mechanism for the particles which hit the nuclear surface.

Nuclear rainbows and heavy-ion scattering

Nuclear Physics A, 1984
Abstract We discuss refractive effects on scattering in the presence of strong absorption, and conclude that a residuum of a true nuclear rainbow has been seen only for light ions. Such a rainbow seems to be unlikely for heavy ions because of their stronger absorption.

Intermediate structure in heavy ion scattering

Zeitschrift fr Physik A Atoms and Nuclei, 1983
It is shown that the nucleon-state structure in the cold, strongly deformed nucleus formed when two nuclei collide may be responsible for anomalies such as those observed in recent experiments.

Polarization potentials in heavy-ion scattering

Physics Reports, 1984
Abstract A polarization potential is defined in terms of the Feshbach projection operator formalism to represent the effect upon the elastic channel of the coupling to non-elastic channels in heavy-ion scattering. The polarization potential represents coupling to specific surface degrees of freedom of the particular reaction considered and it is ...

Atomic Effects on Heavy-Ion Scattering

Physical Review C, 1997
Angular distributions of a Pb-208 beam on Pb-208 thin targets at very small angles were measured. The shape of the experimental distribution is not Gaussian, indicating a plural scattering regime rather than multiple scattering. The distribution was well reproduced by a Monte Carlo simulation of the straggling process.
