Heavy-Ion Dosimetry

open access: yes, 1980
A comprehensive and accurate definition of the physical characteristics of a radiation field is a necessary, but not sufficient, condition for understanding (and predicting) the probability of observing a biological effect. Part of the difficulty of doing this stems from the fact that very often the biological final state accessible to observation is ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.

Time‐Dependent Oxidation and Scale Evolution of a Wrought Co/Ni‐Based Superalloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows how a new wrought Co/Ni‐based superalloy resists oxidation at 800 ∘$^\circ$C. The oxide scale changes from rough, fast‐growing spinel to a dense, protective chromia–alumina layer. Atom probe analysis reveals tiny refractory‐rich bubbles at the interface that mark the transition to long‐term, diffusion‐controlled protection ...

Investigation on the efficiency of food waste fermentation solution as a supplementary carbon source for electroplating wastewater treatment

open access: yesGongye shui chuli
Large volumes of carbon sources must be added to electroplating wastewater to remove nitrogen and sustain microbial development as the wastewater contains high concentrations of nitrate nitrogen and a range of mixed heavy metal ions.

Behavior of Copper, Nickel, Cadmium and Mercury Ions in Anode Chamber of Microbial Fuel Cells

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2018
Microbial fuel cell (MFC) technology is widely used in wastewater treatment, and heavy metal ions play a important role in MFCs. In this paper, we studied the effect of heavy metal ions (copper, nickel, cadmium and mercury) on anode, mainly in voltage ...

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Microscopic Calculation of Heavy-Ion Potentials Based on TDHF

open access: yes, 2011
We discuss the implementation and results of a recently developed microscopic method for calculating ion-ion interaction potentials and fusion cross-sections. The method uses the TDHF evolution to obtain the instantaneous many-body collective state using

Ion-Induced Synthesis of Alginate Fibroid Hydrogel for Heavy Metal Ions Removal

open access: yesFrontiers in Chemistry, 2020
Design and synthesis of environmentally friendly adsorbents with high adsorption capacities are urgently needed to control pollution of water resources. In this work, a calcium ion-induced approach was used to synthesize sodium alginate fibroid hydrogel (
