Heavy Ion Collisions

open access: yes, 2004
Lattice QCD predicts a phase transition between hadronic matter and a system of deconfined quarks and gluons (the Quark Gluon Plasma) at high energy densities. Recent results from the Brookhaven Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) dedicated to the study of QCD at extreme densities will be discussed and compared to measurements obtained at the CERN ...

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

The Relationship between pH and Heavy Metal Ion Sorption by Algal Biomass

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 2003
The relationship between pH and heavy metal ion sorption by the biomass of two algal species was studied under controlled experimental conditions. It was observed that increasing heavy metal ion sorption by algal biomass with pH mainly arose from a ...

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Heavy-Ion Linear Accelerator [PDF]

open access: yesReview of Scientific Instruments, 1961
Two linear accelerators have been built for the acceleration of ions in the mass region from helium to argon. The linear accelerators consist of two 70-Mc cavity resonators of the Alvarez design. Ions with a charge to mass ratio e/m≥0.15 times the e/m of a proton are injected into the first cavity of the linear accelerator with a Cockcroft-Walton ...

Mechanochemical Synthesis and Characterization of Nanostructured ErB4 and NdB4 Rare‐Earth Tetraborides

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
ErB4 and NdB4 nanostructured powders are produced by mechanochemical synthesis. 5 h mechanical alloying and 4 M HCl acid leaching are used in the production. ErB4 and NdB4 powders exhibit maximum magnetization of 0.4726 emu g−1 accompanied with an antiferromagnetic‐to‐paramagnetic phase transition at about TN = 18 K and 0.132 emu g−1 with a maximum at ...

Effect of swift heavy ions in Ni–Al nanocrystalline films studied by X-ray absorption spectroscopy

open access: yes, 2011
X-ray absorption spectroscopic measurements have been used to compare the electronic structures of swift heavy ions (100 MeV Si ions) irradiated and pristine Ni–Al nanocrystalline films.

Multiplicity and theremalization time in heavy-ions collisions

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2016
We present a concise review of quark-gluon plasma formation in heavy-ions collisions within the holographic approach. In particular, we discuss how to get the total multiplicity in heavy ions collision to fit the recent experimental data. We also discuss
