Suitability of HEC-RAS for Flood Forecasting [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Water Resources Journal, 2005
At present, most river flood forecasts are conducted using a two-step procedure. First, flood routing is conducted, normally using hydrological models. The resulting flood peaks are then converted to water level forecasts using a steady flow hydraulic model, such as HEC-RAS.

Sedimentation Analysis of Kabul River by Using HEC-RAS

open access: yesJournal of The Institution of Engineers (India): Series A, 2023
Abstract Rivers are the main and easily available source of water for various uses, and one of the main aims of river engineering is to control sedimentation and erosion. Due to strategic and environmental circumstances, the Kabul River is a well-known river in Afghanistan that attracts much interest for its water project design, existing ...

Flood mapping using hydraulic modeling and Sentinel-1 image: Case study of Medjerda Basin, northern Tunisia

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Remote Sensing and Space Sciences, 2020
In northwestern Tunisia, floods are the most widespread natural hazard. Indeed, this problem is posed seriously in the Medjerda basin. In fact, the plain of Jendouba - Bou Salem is the most affected area by this plague. It has the form of a shallows that

Comparing HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS for Continuous, Rain-on-Grid, Urban Watershed Modeling

open access: yesHydrology
The application of two-dimensional (2D) hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tools is increasing for overland flow simulation, as they represent spatial changes in depth, velocity, and flow conditions more accurately.

Perbandingan Hasil Pemodelan Aliran Satu Dimensi Unsteady Flow dan Steady Flow pada Banjir Kota

open access: yesMedia Komunikasi Teknik Sipil, 2016
One dimensional flow is often used as a flood simulation for the planning capacity of the river. Flood is a type of unsteady non-uniform flow, that can be simulated using HEC-RAS.

Determination of Flood Inuandation Areas in the City of Bingöl (Turkey) Using Geographic Information Systems and HEC-RAS

open access: yesDoğal Afetler ve Çevre Dergisi, 2020
Flood is among the most common natural disasters in Turkey. For this reason, it is very important to determine the flood spreading areas in advance, to reduce the flood risk and to ensure the safety of life and property accordingly.

Hybrid GNN and temporal encoder models for flood forecasting in the Vu Gia–Thu Bon River Basin

open access: yesRiver, EarlyView.
Abstract Flood forecasting in river networks requires models that can capture both spatial dependencies across river basins and the temporal dynamics of hydrological processes. This study proposes a hybrid approach combining Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) with temporal sequence models, such as Long Short‐Term Memory (LSTM) networks and Transformer ...
