The cargo protein MAP17 (PDZK1IP1) regulates the cancer stem cell pool activating the Notch pathway by abducting NUMB [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Purpose: Cancer stem cells (CSC) are self-renewing tumor cells, with the ability to generate diverse differentiated tumor cell subpopulations. They differ from normal stem cells in the deregulation of the mechanisms that normally control stem cell ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

High‐Throughput In Vivo Screening Using Barcoded mRNA Identifies Lipid Nanoparticles With Extrahepatic Tropism for In Situ Immunoengineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput in vivo mRNA LNP screening platform is developed and employed to screen a large library of 122 mRNA LNPs in vivo for delivery to immune, stromal, and parenchymal cells, identifying promising LNP candidates. A novel small particle flow cytometry‐based protein adsorption analysis method is utilized to interrogate protein corona ...

A novel method of Francisella infection of epithelial cells using HeLa cells expressing fc gamma receptor

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
Background Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of tularemia, is a facultative intracellular bacterium. Although the life cycle of this bacterium inside phagocytic cells (e.g., macrophages, neutrophils) has been well analyzed, the difficulty of ...

Genetic Characteristics of the HeLa Cell

open access: yesScience, 1976
The genotype of the patient Henrietta Lacks from whose cervical carcinoma the HeLa cell was derived was deduced from the phenotypes of her husband and children, and from studies of the HeLa cell. Hemizygous expression of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in HeLa, together with the deduced heterozygosity of Mrs.

Pathogen-host reorganization during Chlamydia invasion revealed by cryo-electron tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Invasion of host cells is a key early event during bacterial infection, but the underlying pathogen-host interactions are yet to be fully visualised in three-dimensional detail.

Porous Iridium Oxide Inverse Opal Catalysts Enable Efficient PEM Water Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Porous iridium‐based inverse opal (IrOx‐IO) structures are introduced as high‐performance, unsupported PEM‐WE anode catalysts. Their electrochemical behavior is analyzed through porosity/surface area tuning, voltage breakdown, and circuit modeling.

CD133+/ABCC5+ cervical cancer cells exhibit cancer stem cell properties

open access: yesHeliyon
Objective: This study explores the correlation between Forkhead box M1 (FOXM1) and ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 5 (ABCC5) in relation to paclitaxel resistance in cervical cancer. It aims to identify potential cervical cancer stem cell markers,
